Apologies if I've been misinformed or I'm misunderstanding this situation; here's the sketch with my 2007 55K miles 2.0 Tdi with FASH that I've owned since Christmas...

    I have clutch judder.

Obviously the DMF is under suspicion, but if I ride the clutch a bit to warm it up and wear the friction faces, the judder seems to clear for a while and it also appears to be worse when cold, which IME would point more to a clutch issue than the DMF.

However - this car has a hideous flat spot (off boost/lag type sensation), which is much more evident in first gear, it really is very noticeable and is nowhere near as 'driveable' as the 8 valve 1.9 Tdi that I had previously.

I have been 'informed' that when customers complain about clutch issues, then the dealer can restrict/limit the torque to disguise clutch or DMF problems???<-- I have no idea about the accuracy of this info, but I can see a kind of logic.

Is it possible that the previous owner complained about clutch judder and the dealer restricted the torque so much that it's causing the off boost sensation that I'm noticing?
Or is it my inexperience with these engines that are 'cammy' by nature?

What do these torque restrictions/limitations from my car refer to?...

Having lived with a dodgy DMF in a BMW for 12 months, I'm familiar with the technique to 'drive around' DMF issues and, although I will replace the clutch/DMF when I get a chance, I'd prefer to lift any choking that may have been applied by the dealer, if possible?

Regarding DMF replacement - Eurocarparts have a decent offer on ATM and I can buy a full LUK DMF/bolts/clutch/bearing kit for £370 + VAT. <-- Recommended kit?

Or any recommended single mass conversion kits?

I'd be grateful for any info that may be of help.

    TIA.

My 2007 went back to the garage not long after I got it as the DMF was on it's way out. I noticed a slight clutch judder and accelerating at speed would induce a bit of a "wobble". The DMF & clutch were both changed, although there is still a slight judder occasionally from the clutch.

1st gear does seem to have a restriction on torque - although I think this is more to do with the way that the throttle is "mapped" in order to prevent wheel spin etc when pulling away. It just means that you have to "boot" it more in first than any other gear - it really is a pain as I like to decide what a car is going to do - not the car decided what it will or won't let me do. I do wonder if a re-map would sort out the 1st gear "problem". Mind you, a remap might also give it a bit more go at higher revs as well...

    Sounds very similar to mine.
It's a PITA Having to account for it with 'driving style'.

As above - does anybody know what the torque 'restrictions' and 'limitations' in the screenshots refer to?
Can they be adjusted? Would it make any difference if they were?

My 07 has a Bluefin remap and still has the torque limited in 1st.

All the VAG diesels have a short first gear to prevent excessive load on the transmission, there is a torque map that can control this in first to sixth and reverse.
I would not recommend that the first gear torque map to be changed as you dont want your transmission to develop a fault due to aggressive driving in first.

    Thanks for the replies.
I've delayed replying because I haven't used the car much and I've had a suspicion that the poor running has been getting worse.

It's got very much worse during the past two weeks and I also now have what sounds like boost leaking.

There's a definite whooshing sound from the passenger side of the engine compartment, that is clearly related to when the engine's on boost.
I'm suspicious of the intercooler, but obviously it's difficult to check for boost leaks when the vehicle's stationary - is there any particular 'favourite' pipe/seal to check or any pointers?

The hesitation/'missing'/kangaroo hopping bizarrely seems to be only when on light throttle/off boost, so much so that I'm considering the possibility that there's two separate faults.

    No fault codes logged.

    Any experiences/thoughts/links/opinions welcomed.

    TIA.

Suddenly got (very) worse this afternoon.
Driving at 60 MPH foot flat to floor and it was slowing down, very very sluggish, I'm guessing full limp mode.

    No engine warning light.
    Gonna scan for codes again.

I've cleared it and I'll re-scan later, but it's still running like a bag of nails.

Could a boost leak cause missing/stuttering/hesitation on light load & throttle?

    Do these look ok?....
