    Hi.

Has anyone ever used the VAG TACHO immobiliser & chip programming tool?

By chance, I need to make-up spare keys for a 2000 (W) Golf, and a 1999 (V) Astra. This seems to claim to work on both cars.

Wonder if anyone has any experience of using this tool (see link below).

    Cheers!

Yes I have used it previously.

That link you posted isn't a genuine version though, its a copy (probably Chinese in origin?). I'd be wary of it not working 100% and causing you a lot of problems if things go wrong.

Be very careful what you do with it, its a powerful tool. Your car's electronics could end up in a real mess.

    OK, thanks for the tips.

Wonder why everyone is so down on Chineese products though? All your 'genuine' electronic appliances are made in China anyway.

Do you mean the software is hacked making them illegal?

All I'm interested in is coding a couple of new transponders to the immobiliser. If it doesn't work, then I need to pay my local auto locksmith anyway, so it's worth the risk in my mind.

£300 for a VAG-TACHO is a bit steep. Do I get shares in the company with that purchase?

It's not the fact that its made in China that is the problem. Lots of good stuff is made there. The problem (in this case) is that its not their product to produce! Its a rip-off copy. That's why its only £20, its an illegal fraudulent copy of the genuine product. They haven't paid any research/R&D costs etc.

That's why the proper version costs more money. £300 is a lot of money but then the product can do a lot of things. Many are not for the fainthearted/inexperienced.

Risk? Hmm well that's upto you I guess. IMHO the risk is more than it simply not working and you having wasted £20. If that dodgy software corrupts your ECU or immobiliser system then you'll wish you hadn't thrown £20 at it. Imagine how much technical support and assistance you will get from the Ebay seller in the event of any problems? - Absolutely zero would be my guess.

If you only want to use it the once then I'd be tempted to pay a garage/auto locksmith to sort it out. It's very rare that I try and persuade people to go to a garage rather than DIY.

Take care, and think carefully about how to proceed!

In addition to Isaac's post - consider this.

Take your job, your salary and everything it provides.

Now, take Mr Chinaman, let him rip it off, undercut your business/employer and send you under - destroying your job, your salary and everything it provides.

By buying a chinese rip off product, you're contributing to the problem.

The best course of action here, IMHO would be as suggested - go to a garage and pay the fee for them to do it, safe in the knowledge that your pride and joy will run after the procedure.

    copyright theft is illegal.

on more than one occasion and by more than one moderator, this has been made perfectly clear to members.

Those who choose to break the law do so of their own accord - we will not however, have this forum put at risk by open discussion of such things.

Thread closed - anybody who finds issue with this can contact myself or Stuart via PM.
