Hi Kate, welcome to the site, now your golf i take it the car is a TDI? i also take it the boost pipe is the one on the bottom of the intercooler? anyway what happens is the 2 metal tags on the pipe break/wear and once they have the clip will not hold it on, so you will need a new pipe, mine blow off about a year ago and a new one cost me £26 inc 2 new clips, people will say you can drill a small hole and use a screw to hold it in place, DONT BOTHER just replace the pipe, the oil you have coming out is normal turbo diesel happenings TBH, so NO you dont need a new turbo, now because your boost pipe isnt on the car you will have no boost and the engine will sound like a nail, PERFECTLY normal

Have the pipe replaced and it will be good as new

In order for the Turbo to work correctly you must reconnect the the hose. (oil should be inside to lubricated the intercooler).

Why do think the Clip is broke?. The clip has a Right Angle on both ends.

Push the hose & with a very slight turning motion it will engage.

The clip fits into the groove on the collar and with the right angles ends (of clip) facing away from the pipe.

The clip will only engage correctly in the right position. This then prevents the hose from coming away.

    All the best.

The intercooler doesnt need to be lubricated, the oil is in there does to the breather system from the crank case and cam cover breather, the tags break for a past time on the boost pipes they are very cheap to buy, the pipe can only go in ONE way and the tags hold it tight against the clip

    Hi Phil,

Resurrecting this thread because I've had the same problem on my wife's car and I'm hoping you can help. The offside pipe at the bottom of the intercooler has blown off. I've taken it off and the retaining clip is broken. The metal lip on the one side the hose is also gone so it looks like I will have to replace the hose or it won't lock properly. I read above that you managed to find a replacement for £26 a couple of years ago and wondered where that was from? The dealer wants close to £75?? I'm happy to pay it to get the car back on the road but if there is a cheaper alternative I'm opting for that - the car has done 120k..
