    Does anyone know the lowest cost I can get this kit for and if vag-diagnostics's own version is good enough?

    Approved resellers are here;

    http://ross-tech.com/distributors.html

    the company you mentioned are selling cheap illegal clones so no, it's not good enough.

    Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Ok thanks for letting me know. Certainly the text on their site is convincing enough to part with £80.

    Genuine VCDS from Ross-tech (the makers/designers) is £200+. A third party cant be selling the same product for £80 or they'd be making a loss.

    Its 100% dodgy. The website shows no address/landline contact numbers either. I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.

    They're not registered as a UK Limited company and the site is hosted in Sweden where the laws on piracy are loose.

    It's a front for China cloned crap

    Wow I didn't realise that it wasn't a registered company! Come to think of it, the images of their cables do bare an uncanny resemblance to the chinese copies sold on ebay so how they can justify charging £80 when ebay versions range from $20 is crazy! I think the Rosstech one is going to have to wait until next payday...........or the one after that!

    And do RossTech offer free lifetime upgrades to the software?

    VCDS is free to download - when you have a genuine cable, you register it and you don't pay for the VCDS software updates. Occasionally the firmware in the cable will need to be updated too, but this happens automatically as long as you have an internet connection when the cable is plugged in and you launch VCDS.

    Cheers!

    i would be buying from vag com as if ya have a problem they wont help as they know you have a fake one. the support and updates are well worth the money and there is nothing like this on the market for other cars. this tool is as good if not better then the factory tool. i know it seems a lot but if you look at other systems paying for updates its worth it in the end.

    I just wished they would sell it for around £100-£150 which is more reasonable. The high cost seems a little unfair, and if you decided to sell up and move away from VAG what use is the cable as I'm pretty sure it can only be used on a single laptop.

    It can be used on any number of laptops. You'll always sell a genuine version on Ebay/forums
