New radiator/oil cooler in my 1994/5 2.6 coupe E.....I have heard a lot of talk on Antifreeze/Coolant issues.
Halfords have Comma Xtreme G48 concentrated antifreeze, does anyone know if this is fine or should i go for one more specific to Audi ?

    Cheers,

    Paul

Hey buddy, nice to be the first reply and on a subject fresh in my mind.
The coolant/antifreeze you want is G12/G12+/G12++,they are all the same thing , just plus signs added as the product has been updated or improved, you can buy this from good motor factors fairly priced or direct from Audi/VW and it still isn't that expensive.
It is a pink/pale red fluid as used in all the VAG range aswell as various BMW, PORSCHE and similar marques.
Do not mix other types of a/freeze into your system, assuming it already has G12 in it, because it will turn to sludge and cause you all manner of unwanted cooling related issues.
The G12 is specifically made to aid cooling , stop freezing and has anti-corrosive ingredients to suit the engines design.
    Recap
G12/G12+/G12++, Do not mix, if unsure drain your system, flush and re-fill with G12
    Good luck

Just wondering does the 12 after the G refer to temp + & - ?

It's just the spec given to it by VAG.

G12/G12+/G12++ are not the same thing. I've got a useful thing that shows the differences somewhere, but can't find it right now.

We've got the Fuchs Fricofin DP and Motul Inugel Optimal that are ideal for cars that need G12/G12+/G12++ coolants.

Vag cars before approx 1996 were filled with G11. As it probably says in this link, it does not mix well with G12, mixing produces a murky muddy looking coolant which may be what has happened? not sure about G12+and G12++, probably best to flush and start again with a modern one?

scotty33 is absolutely right, G11 GREEN fluid NOT the red one

some **** head back street garage mixed the two on a previous service with the previous female owner and it has left it less than 100% clean. if it is mixed, get a proper flushing agent spend £30-40 and clear it out properly

If I flush a system absolutely clean, it gets genuine VAG G12++ and I paint pen the bottle to say so including the date.
