6 Speed 01E Clutch Slave cylinder

I've had a brake fluid leak since owning my allroad, I originally replaced the clutch slave cylinder, because fluid appeared to leak from it.

However over the past few months I've noticed fluid dripping from the undertray and so decided to tighten the union to the clutch slave quick connect fitting before I took it to its MOT.... Bad idea, looks like the quick connect fitting has been split (it seems to be aluminium), tightening it further made fluid visibly leak.... No problem I thought, go and get new quick connect fitting, hmmm.... no.... comes as part of a kit with the full slave cylinder pipe, around £100.

I searched and searched for the quick connect but couldn't find one anywhere over Xmas, unless anyone knows somewhere? and I refuse to pay £100 to dealer for a piece of Aluminium that looks like an 89p airline fitting.

But... I found out you can fit the earlier steel slave cylinder (4A0 721 261), around 35 quid. All I need to do is make an extension pipe to make up the difference in lengths of the input pipe.

So car is sat waiting in garage, ready to fit new slave, and I'm on train into work.... I'll see how it goes on Friday when I get chance to fit it.

Thanks, I had tried a couple of breakers but I think they're expecting you to buy more than just the coupling so they're not really interested. It'd be great to have a local VW/Audi breakers that you can physically visit but never found one yet....

I'm going for the steel slave option as its supposed to be more reliable.

Well I finally fitted metal clutch slave cylinder, I had to adapt the mounting plate for the input pipe but all seems ok.

I changed the Clutch Master Cylinder too, the pedal now has less travel (it now aligns with the brake pedal when at rest), feels firmer and appears the gear changes are smoother too. Although the part number supplied by Audi (8E2 721 401AE) for the Master was incorrect, I used the number from the old cylinder (8E2 721 401D). They had completely different attachments for the brake pedal, although identical otherwise.

Anyway, all good, seems to have fixed the fluid leak too...
