    Hi All

I have a A3 2007 and was thinking of upgrading to a genuine Audi sat nav unit (RNS-E).

Have anyone done this and is it an easy fit, I have the standard CD/radio will I need different cables.

    thanks in advance.......

I was thinking of doing this to my 2009 A3 either with the 3G LED model or the older one.

I've already retrofitted Bluetooth. If you have a double din stereo (the bigger larger ones) then it should just slide in. All you need is the gps antenna which sits in behind the glovebox (iirc).

And of course, it'll need coded to the car too.

Im waiting until after christmas to do this and hopefully will be doing an installation guide too.

This has been covered numerous times on here, so do a search

You won't need adapter in 2007 onwards cars. Been done loads of times, lots of guides on here and elsewhere.

I had this upgrade done just yesterday. I had a double din symphony II unit before so the RNS-E slotted straight in.
The GPS antenna on mine has been located behind the instrument cluster. Lower the steering wheel, 2 bolts out, pull the clocks away and mount the antenna to the roof of the dash with double sided tape. Ive been using the nav all day and had a constant 7/8 sattelites.
I highly reccomend it, Im really happy with it after just 1 day.
Ive put 18 CD's onto 1 SD card, which the RNS-E uses, and if you set it out correctly with sub folders, theyre really accessible and easy to use.
Ive got a few fault code issues with mine which I hope to get sorted asap, but the actual unit and everything is working perfectly and I reccomend it 100%.

Brilliant....did it yesterday as well double din chorus and as you say fits straight in.
Just have a few teething problems to sort, but with my lack of patience put it in when it was dark so just left the GPS antenna loose. Have now discovered the removal keys are different so will have to wait until next week to get a new set!
Also having problems playing music on the sd card, did you copy from iTunes and what setting did you use?
    Merry Christmas all.....

When you get the keys to remove the unit, I definitely reccomend mounting the gps antenna behind the clocks, there is plenty of space and its pretty simple.
Ive also seen it mounted on top of the glovebox, but this requires removing the glove box which I think is a bit more involved than the clocks.

I bought a double pack of 2GB SD cards from tesco direct, these are the exact items: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-6797.aspx
I believe it wont read cards any bigger than 4GB, and even then its a bit picky.

I ripped the music off all my audio CD's using windows media player, and then downloaded a music converter to change the music files from WMA's (windows media audio) to MP3's.
Get a USB/SD card reader, copy and paste the MP3's onto your SD card and your away.

If you arrange the MP3's into folders, they are easier to organise when in the RNS-E.
For example one of my folders is Oasis, then in there I have another folder with the album name, Time Flies, then inside that folder I have the MP3's.
