Hello all, after trawling previous posts to no avail I have a few questions to those more knowledgable than myself..I have a 2004 S-Line (190) Eng. code BEX.
Have seen loads here about Diverter valves and I'm wondering what the benefits to fitting one are. My car is a bit low on power (170 bhp) when I had it on a rolling road. I've had a few recon. turbos in the past due to a misdiagnosis. At the moment its still low on power so I'm thinking about getting a diverter valve. Will this help to get some more ponies out of my beloved? Is it easy to fit? What one should I go for? Is Forge a brand name or the type of valve that I want?? Any help or advice is always appreciated, cheers.

Your car already has a recirculating diverter valve, AKA “Dump valve” to certain members of the proletariat. A diverter valve is used on petrol engines to release excess pressure that builds up between the turbo’s compressor wheel and a closed throttle body on the over run, a situation that can cause the turbo to stall so increasing spool up time when the throttle is re-opened and it can avoid sudden stalls that can damage the turbo. These valves, if routed back into the induction system, make very little noise, people with a higher count of shell suits and trainers than IQ tend to vent the valves externally which causes them to make the car sound like it has flatulence. You can get kits to do this but it is purely for dramatic appeal and has no effect on performance, except when picking up teenage girls who giggle a lot.

Love the quip Crasher. Ah, I well remember the boy racer times when I drilled holes in exaust pipes for the "sound effect". O course that was when you had to have a man walking in front with a red flag. Christmas joy to all who sail this forum.

Do you mean sum sort of bleed valve.Back in the day i had one on my fiat uno turbo made by GT tuning which fooled the ecu into thinking there wasn't enough boost from the turbo using rubber hose and small aluminium restrictors very crude but effective. As said above a dump valve will do nothing.I would just get it mapped and rolling roaded.

"purely for dramatic appeal and has no effect on performance"

    ..
Unless you've got a MAF sensor. All the dumping of air out of the system can make you run Rich...and lose performance :P. Not to mention your screaming to everyone "Ive stopped accelerating- quickly!".
