Ok here's another my passenger footwell is wet thread. I stripped the car back to it's component parts ie all the plastic out from under the bonnet, battery out, drain holes cleaned, pollen filter out. D gasket found to be perished. My main concern is that the pollen filter itself was also wet. is there suppose to be some sort of cover over this?, apart from the one that covers the battery etc. Are the pollen filter gaskets readily available? if so how much are they?. I have removed the interior on the passenger side of the car inc the seat. I know that this will throw up an airbag fault but will the system reset itself once the seat isput back in. Also my alarm goes of at random, the control box is totally dry. Any ideas.

The only cover for the pollen filter is the weather strip, it also has a little bit of guttering that goes along the edge of the weather strip that runs along the base of the windscreen to catch water and direct it over the edge of the pollen filter housing. I did not get another gasket, I used silicone sealer, such as bathroom sealer and then filled the gasket area with this, I haven't had a leak since..

You need to disconnect all the connectors and then clean them. the faults should go unless the control box has been damaged by the water... The airbag fault needs to be cleared with someone who has VAG Com. I did the same )

Hope it goes well for you!

as for the wet pollen filter make sure the little plastic guttering is in place and check for any cracks in your windscreen cowl and make sure its seated properly on the windscreen aswell

Thanks everyone. Job is now done, I ended up buying a new filter housing from the "***********" £11.45 inc VAT. All gaskets seals required were on the new part. I took the D shaped seal out of the housing and put a bead of silicone in before replacing the seal back into its housing. I also placed a bead of silicone around the hole of the heater intake before bolting the new housing down. I put the little gutter piece back in place and also put silocone around any nut, bolt and grommit in the vacinity for good measure. The wires have been dried out and my alarm is now behaving itself and I had to take the car to have the airbag system reset (WESTEC PERFORMANCE £29 inc VAT). Just a note to anyone removing their seats, Make sure the battery is disconnected while unplugging and plugging in the wire for the seat, and once its disconnected dont reconnected your battery until the seat is back in place and the wire is connected. This way you wont have the cost of having the airbag system reset.

    Thanks to every one

I've just cleaned out the bungs and replaced the pollen filter housing and seal. Didnt take long and parts from ******** not expensive by their standards. New pollen filter housing with new foam seal included- 819 640A (9.78 +VAT) and deflector cowling 819 415EB (£10.58 +VAT). Bought the deflector as I feared that I would break the old one getting it out - I was right. I didnt realise that gutter was separate part - I was able to remove the three nuts but couldnt get housing /gutter assembly out as one piece. Quite tricky to separate the two insitu (because I couldnt see how they went together) easy once you know how they fit together.
    These photo might help
    Housing/gutter assembly:

Side view of housing/gutter assembly taken from n/s - to remove insitu twist clockwise (as seen from n/s)

Bulkhead after housing and deflector removed

as the new foam seal didnt seen that great I laid a generous bed of silicone sealant down before bolting down the housing. If I was doing it again I would probably get a new rubber seal that fits in a slot in the windscreen and seals against the deflector -dont know what this costs though.

    Good luck

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to replace the Pollen filter as I've had the same problem as you. Two questions. Is it worth contacting VW wrt to the recall I've heard about? (2002 1.8T). Also, where can I get the Pollen filter from?

    Thanks,

VW no longer provide the gasket for the pollen filter. The service guy spoke to at VW says they use silicone sealer in the O-ring void and "squash it down onto the opening in the bulkhead. They wanted £28.98 for the silicone sealer so opted for a £3.95 sealer from B&Q.

After a week I'm still trying to dry out my car and driving it around with no passenger seat.
