    Hi.
I've got pretty bad rust bubbling through on my roof ( pic at bottom ) I've had lots of quotes, I'm thinking of getting it done at a cost of £375, Now the place with this price said he could garuntee it for 5 years, not many do this if at all.

He said if the rust was to deep he would cut it out and weld a new piece for abit more money.

Is it worth having this repair on a 8yr car with 120,000 miles on it? I've looked after the car, full service history and well maintained it. I know one of the front wings as slight bubbling and this could be replaced at a later date. Apart from these 2 places the bodywork is in very good condition.

Just after some of your opinions.

    Pic of rust.

    TIA

I would get it fixed if it was mine.If you leave it it'll only get worse,if you want to sell it just because of that, the person buying it will try and bring the price down as much as they can because of the rust.I think it's a no brainer really.I had most of my car resprayed about 2 years ago at a cost of 1850£ and i have no regrets. If everything else is ok with the car than it must be worth spending 375£ to keep it in good condition.

Think I've left it to late for that, plus I've painted over the rust now. In hindsight if I'd of spotted it as soon as it stated to bubble I might of had a chance.

It may still be worth talking to Audi about that, the worst they can say is no.

I tried to chat Audi up on a similar issue but they said unless I had owned the car from new and could prove it had never been painted os repaired, they were not interested.
Obviously I could not prove the cars' history so that was that

That was a little severe of them and not strictly by the book, but it does not hurt to ask.

They will/ should examine the paint, usually on every panel to determine if it has been repaired, before making a decision as to warranty.
Dealer should be able to do it in the car park.

Alan , this is what a friend of mine ,who works at a VW-Audi body repair agent, told me.
The car in question was a 51 plate S3 which had strange corrosive looking marks on the rear end of the roof gutters, which is apparently common on that shape A3 shell, but the dealer said sorry, history etc.

Audi main dealer should at least check the paint thickness. I went through a similar scenario with a B4 Audi (80 TDI) a few years back regards the tailgate paint under the window rubber. Think it was a fairly common area for corrosion as there was a recess for water and debris to sit.

The Audi warranty guy was a complete jobs-worth. The paint thickness proved the tailgate paintwork was original... so far so good. Then he took out a workshop magnifying glass (I kid you not). He claimed the paint had been scratched at some point so the anti-perforation warranty had been invalidated. For them to recommend the work is carried out under warranty they have to submit a claim to Audi UK with support evidence. The anti-perforation warranty (12 years) is only applicable if the rust is from below, with no stone-chip or paint damage. Irrespective of the fact the paint was intact - they claimed the rear window had been changed and the paint had been damaged when the window rubber was removed. I had no evidence to the contrary, however it had a full Audi service history prior to me purchasing it. The other sting in the tail is that the paint-work is supposedly checked during routine servicing. I nearly laughed out loud... absolute boll*cks! There's more small-print with Audi's paint warranty than your average European treaty!

Good luck with your claim... at least you know what to expect.
