heater controls don't work, cannot select between screen, vents or footwell. this is the top part of the heater contol flaps, part of a massive heating assembly on 2007 B6 passat. Someone has been there before me it seems, and removed the actuator and also the cable connector and cable that goes to it. This is a major problem, any ideas how to go about it. The nylon wheel in the pic can be rotated by hand and operates the flaps.

Ive located a complete assembly from a breaker, but the cable issue looks difficult as I dont know where the cable goes to. If you have experience in this area pls private msg me. thanks.

Take your radio out (trim just pulls off) and you should be able to get behind ac control. The dial on right hand side should have cable attached to it. This is what needs reconnecting.

sounds simple if you've done it before. Do you mean I use a blade to lift off the silver covered trim? is it then obvious as how to remove the radio? And, do I take it this is a common problem after all? the cable comes off the rotary control? Does this cable connect to the right hand side of the heater unit, not the left nylon wheel in my picture. If thats the case it would explain why I can't see an actuator or cable going to it. AM I right therefore in now assuming an actuator on the left is only ever there for climate control which i do not have. lots of questions but would help understand the configuration, thanks again

Don't use blade. Just fingers should do the job. Pull from the saids.
Then you have four torx (one each corner) to remove - size 20 if I remember correctly. And radio just comes out.

I don't know if this is a common problem. I removed my AC controls (to get to gateway) and pulled that cable out.
I had cable(with white plastic connector) connected to the back of right hand control knob. It goes to the right hand side of the heater unit not to the left side.
Don't know what left one is for as I never get to that side.

It is hard to reconnect as you actually can't see where you have to connect it. I had my clocks removed as I was on that so was a bit easier.

    Good luck.

thanks to richiemac for helping me solve my problem. See thread on air distribution for my solution. I forgot to mention, when you remove the passenger air bag warning light in the middle of the dash on the passat B6 it triggers the air bag warning light, you need canbus to reset it.

I presume you mean the bowden (rotating cable) at the opposite end of the direction dial. You need to know where the air is pointing to in the car, and turn the dial to match that. So if you left it set to screen, make sure the dial is pointing to screen. If you don't know, connect the cable back and turn the fan on to check. I assume you have the radio out so make sure its out. The hole in the heater housing has a locator, and you will find it about inch to the right and up in relation to the top of radio housing, you can see it, just, use a mirror, it is high up to the right, but putting the cable in has to be done blind. Fiddly but can be done with no further strip down. Unless you have vag com or similar don't remove the air bag light cable as it triggers a fault light.
