Can someone please tell me where on the car I can find info that tells me the paint code for my car.

I need to tackle a small area of rust on the rear wheel arch, so I need the code so that Halfords can mix me some paint.

    Thanks

    Hi mate,

I work for a supplier of automotive paint and we are asked this all the time. Normally VAG group cars have their paint codes on a printed label in the spare wheel well in the boot but this doesn't seem to be the case with the Sharan.

The same label should be stuck on the inside of the service manualm, but if thats a no go I suggest you call your local dealer or TPS outlet who will give you the code from the reg or chassis number. The local TPS outlet here in Edinburgh (0131 314 0770)... sure you could call them wherever you are!

Oh yeah and if you are looking for paint I'd go anywhere but Halfords... their efforts when it comes to apint matching can be somewhat iffy!

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Stuart

Thanks for the info. I have found my document pack, and does LC6W means anything to you?? This number is followed after a space by L--- then space L---

Would this be recognised by a body shop, or general paint mixer??

    Thanks

Hi and sorry for the late reply,

Yes you have the right paint code and your car is some kind of pearlescent green colour!

The only thing I can suggest is that a lot of paint manufacturers have shade variants of colours. If your colour was used on more than just the Sharan there could be 2 or 3 or even as many as 6 shades. This is because there are VW plants all over Europe trying to mix the same colour but inevitably there will be discrepencies.

If you go to Halfords they don't recognise this and will only supply you the standard shade (if they can even manage that!!), so be prepared for not getting a great colour match... this is not good news if you are trying to paint a wheel arch to match the factory finish. The staff in Halfords tend to be spotty teenagers who like to think they know it all!!!

Maybe you could try what they call a 'smart repairer' in your area. They will come to your home and do the job there and will charge a fraction of what a bodyshop would! It doesn't matter how good anyone is... the likelyhood of you getting a finish with an aerosol where you can't see it against the factory finish in near impossible!

Hope this helps and hasn't totally bamboozled you!!!

    Cheers,
    Stuart
