I have the above car and have just done an oil/filter change. The service indicator is saying 'service in 200 miles'. I have tried resetting it in line with the Haynes manual, but all it does is mess the clock up!

I have searched the archives here and come up with no less than 4 different ways of resetting?

Can anyone let me know the correct way to clear/reset please (i know it will go back to the 10k service interval). Thank you chaps.

From memory, you press and hold the trip meter reset button and then switch the ignition on - you then turn the clock adjuster knob in a clockwise direction whilst still holding the trip button in. Then release both buttons, switch the ignition off and the message should have cleared.

Ha ha - can't help (off the top of my head) but yes it is a right pain! I'm pretty sure switching the ignition off comes in to it (which isn't in the Haynes or the VW Manual) and possibly rolling up one trouser leg whilst pinching your right ear lobe.

This is what I have written down for resetting my Service Indicator for my 2002 Passat Sport Estate 130 PD.

Call.... Left hand button BUTTON 'B'. Right Hand button BUTTON 'A'.

Press and hold down BUTTON 'A'.

    Switch Ignition ON.

Word 'SERVICE' will appear in Trip Recorder Display.

    Release BUTTON 'A'.

Turn Button 'B' to the 'RIGHT' to reset the display.

    Switch ignition OFF.

    Job is done!

Please only reset your Service Indicator AFTER you have done the Service required.
Otherwise you are not being fair to yourself or others who may buy your car! Thanks

I gave it a go following the above exactly and, hey presto, it worked !!!!! Nice one, thanks a million; what a pain that little reset is, but simple when you know how!
