    Hi

After receiving all the gubbins to install my aftermarket stereo, just inspecting the ISO wiring harness and there are two leads - one the 12v ignition is self-explanatory, the other - an orange dash illumination wire is less so.

Is there any wire I can splice into, that would provide the relevant signal for this? Not sure where the illumination wires sit in the B6 passat.

Thanks for any help, otherwise I'll just leave this taped up like a lot of other people do.

    apologies...

a little digging on google shows that the wire will be redundant due to the canbus technology. For things like this to work I need a £90 kenwood canbus adapter. Not exactly worth it.

    Thanks anyway.

Or you could put a scotch lock into the supply for the illumination ring on the cigar lighter socket. That's what I did and it supplies enough current to switch the high/low display on the radio.

Yes mate - have a look at this guide which is for the installation of the footwell LED's; the wire you want to connect to for stereo illumination is the very same one.

thanks! looks easier to get to than I thought. Not got small hands but will do my best to do it from behind the centre trim, rather than remove the centre console gaiter and ashtray...
