May be an old subject...but the benefit of any experience out there, appreciated.

Year old A4 SE sal. 2.0 TDi multitronic ( 16k mls) bought used from an Audi dealer.

    1. reverse first thing in the morning ( summertime) reluctant to produce movement, and even with some revs, 12 /1300 say, won't move especially if on a slight 'upcline'. Eventually goes with more revs. but a bit embarrassing!
When at operating temp. its OK.

I know reverse is a lower regime, but this doesn't seem mechanically right.

    2. Normal street driving ( forward), eg. slight upcline from t/lights...also a bit reluctant to get going if the foot kept on the brake. More revs = ok, but then a bit too much acceleration occurs when it gets going and I have to back off.

Drive take up is OK if taking off from the park brake.

Am I expecting too much from a CVT ? Using it incorrectly ?

Have not yet been back to dealer.

    TS

normal however a reset of the adaptation channels may improve it or may not
from cold the oil temp in the box is insufficient and as there is no torque converter to lock the drive then with this assembly your going to have a delay when reversing on any form of incline from cold and also delays from junctions
if in doubt compare with a like for like vehicle

Hi! I have the same problem!! I have a 2010 S-Line 2.0 TDI Multitronic. My first diesel car, so didn't know what to expect, and after having a very responsive Vauxhall (yeah ,I know!) petrol engined car before this Audi, (wonderful car to be in,and drive!), which was immediately off the starting blocks at junctions and roundabouts, it was a bit disconcerting to be going nowhere fast when trying to get out into traffic on a roundabout the first time in my A4. Especially when the car coming from my right was looming up on me fast!! (S**T!!) I haven't had the car long so I'm just getting used to its habits, and it does seem to be better off the blocks once its warmed up a bit! Hope it helps to know its not just you and yours!! Cheers!

I've just acquired an 18 month old (10 Reg) A4 Avant 2.0 TDi and have been similarly caught out by the delay in pick up at low revs and in engaging drive, particularly in reverse. This is in stark contrast to the performance of the Geartronic box on my Volvo XC70 which was really quick on the uptake and responsive. I guess this is something that I'll get used to but was a bit of a surprise at first.

I posted a similar question earlier. There's always a pause in reverse before my car gets going - incline or flat. Now toying with the idea of engaging the park brake before reversing as my car rolls forward a bit if on an incline.

Is this normal or should I get it checked? My dealer already thinks I'm a hypochondriac!

a8 tech, thanks for this info.
I take it the delay in drive take up ( with Park brake OFF ) is caused by the drive pully sheaves moving to clamp the drive belt ?

With park brake ON the delay seems minimal when you accelerate. under these circumstances is the neutral obtained some other way.... ie different to when the foot brake pedal is used ?

    Thanks TS

I have lived with mine since Oct '09 and yes the gearbox does take some learning but once you know where the take up is it's fine.

I also have hill hold and find that fine.

I love mine to bits and it will be a long time before I think of moving from multi.....

Oh.....and welcome WinterAudi and Richaud, I note the first post indicator and that you are just over the border Richaud....the dark side.

Thx Pitch, am enjoying (so far) returning to Audis after a 20 year gap - albeit that we are also running a most excellent VW Golf 2.0 DTi Bluemotion that has been utterly reliable and is averaging >64 mpg. Really useful Forum from which I hope to close with equiping my A4 Avant with new Winter boots and roof bars. Nonetheless, Multitronic box seems OK and is gradually growing on me.
