    Hi,

I've had my car now for a few weeks and i'm trying to sort a few faults out. The car is a 2002 Audi A4 B6 1.8T Sport. The red Airbag light is lit on the instrument cluster and a VAG-COM reading brought up the following fault code:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Address 15: Airbags Labels: 8E0-959-655-84.lbl
    Part No: 8E0 959 655 B
    Component: Airbag 8.4EP 2000
    Coding: 0010602
    Shop #: WSC 63351 000 00000
    VCID: 36683A5C7E1D6BAC

    1 Fault Found:
01739 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Pass. Side (G284)
012 -- Electrical Fault in Circuit - MIL ON
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On inspection it appears that the connection which attaches to the sensor is damaged (See pics)

It looks like there are two wires connected, white and brown.

The yellow casing of the connection is damaged with only half of it still attached.

There appears to be a third wire, black (Ground?) which isn't attached to anything, looks as if it could have been cut.

Is there anyone here who's dealt with these sensors at all in the past who would know how they should be wired? Also does anyone know about removing the sensor? It looks like it's held in by two alan key bolts which wouldn't be hard to remove to get a better look at the connections. My concerns are, I don't really know how the airbag system works and I don't want the Airbags going off. I would assume that the Airbag system is only armed when the car is started or at a certain speed? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Ben.

    UPDATE:

    Just found this info from another forum;

G283 = Passenger (RHD) Front Airbag Crash Sensor
    --Pin 1 = brown (ground)
    --Pin 2 = white
G284 = Drivers (RHD) Front Airbag Crash Sensor
    --Pin 1 = red (ground)
    --Pin 2 = lilac

So it looks like there is only two connections, whats the black wire there for then ? hum...

hi trickster, as you would be aware plastic gets brittle with age but does not break on its own, i would be guessing but i reccon a fault developed and without the knowledge needed the wire was cut to fix, i'm not an auto electrician and someone will put me right the three wires might be supply , common and self test for the warning system. The safest way to disable the airbags is to handbrake on bonnet open and turn on ignition without starting engine, now the safety bit get out of the car and remove the neg terminal and then the pos terminal to the battery that way if the airbags were to go off you dont eat them and have a slight ringing sound in your ears. i would now reconnect wire and battery and vcds car again to read and clear faults,

Compare the connector with the other side for how many wires, the passenger one looks like someone's been fiddling with it,a trip to the breakers is in order to get another harness and checkout the wiring on a donor vehicle,I would get a new sensor, don't want to chance it with air bags
