I replaced the flywheel and clutch kit last August 2010, but recently the clutch makes this clunking noise whenever I depress the clutch. The noise is kind of loud, you can hear it when I open the driver side door. My feeling is, I may have to replace the clutch kit with a ginuwine one. The flywheel is ginuwine, and the clutch is an aftermarket one from ECP.

    What do you guys suggest/think?

    Hi Zeb,

I would say it was your remap. The standard clutch and fly cant cope with the extra power hike.

I would look at an uprated clutch and fly and maybe having the remapped tweeked to around 160bhp.

I had my gear box changed recently because when the clutch was half way from the floor it would make a really loud rattle. They replaced the whole gear box and guess what, the noise is now back! It's not as constant or as loud and isn't there all the time bit it's still rattling.

    Rappy:

The car has not been remapped yet, was thinking to do it end of this year but even then I's still not sure weather the gearbox would cope with the remap I know if I uprated clutch and fly then it will cost me an arm and a leg

    g-black:

Is this normal with these cars? Or do I need to replace it with the orginal one? I sometimes hesitate to change gears, cause of the damn noise. Should've bought a DSG one

now as silly as it sounds when you changed the clutch did you wire brush off the input shalf? now bear with me, when you fit a new clutch the centre plate is clean and therefore slides on the input shaft as it gets older it doesnt slide as well so can give a noise, ive had this once and now always without fail clean the input shalf and havent had this problem since

The clutch and fly was not done by me, it was done by my local garage. I don't know if he cleaned/wire brushed the input shaft. Would this make it worse, if I ignore the noise? I will take the car to him this week, to check out the noise. The noise only comes when the car is stationary, when I depress the clutch. The noise does not come when I'm driving.

My gear box is a 5 speed. It was 20months old with 25k on it and was replaced under warranty. The noise was there when I bought it and never really bothered me as I thought it was just normal. It was only when I mentioned it when getting it serviced that they said to me it was coming from the gear box and they wanted to investigate it.

Hate making a fuss with the dealers so reluctant to go back. They had the car 2 weeks last time!!

5 speed? I thought all Passat's came with 6 speed as standard??? I sometimes try to avoid driving the car, have spent loads of money on the engine plus other various bits.

    Could it be the driveshaft?

If it only makes the noise when you are standing still it cant really be the driveshaft, the last passat i had this noise on it only done it when sat still never when driving and that was the input shaft needing cleaning so the centre plate slide freely on it

The 1.9s are 5 speed and the replacement for the 1.9 (2.0cr 110 which mine is) is 5 speed too.

The noise is there at any speed in mine, it's just harder to here. I was convinced the nosie was the clutch, but they said it was the box. I didn't argue with them and let them work away.
