    Hi All

So, I've spent the last few hours trying to fathom out what some experts are on about regarding these topics and I'm completely confused!

I've ordered the update cd's but now I'm not so sure it's a good idea to do it with all the possible problems it can cause.
Some experts are saying that it's easy and that items that disappear during the update process can be restored through the hidden green menu.

Can anyone please produce an idiots guide - (and I mean step by step), to the process and what is the solution to restoring the functions that disappear?
Where is this hidden green menu?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I've just gone through the update - it was painless, but you need access to VCDS.

I listed how I did it at https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=115987

    Cheers,

    Hi

    Thanks for the link

The discs have arrived today from Boston Audi - took a bit longer as I live in Sweden!!

Enclosed are instructions but they dont say how to reboot the MMI after each disc, can you give me a clue?

If I understand you, I must have VAG-COM to enable the hidden menu so I can get the battery meter back?
Are their some other issues, AC probs and back camera malfuctioning?

    Cheers again

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

Bit of a ramble, but time is short.....

I did not lose anything out of the MMI other than the battery meter, but as I was pre-warned by the forum I had enabled the hidden menu. I had lost all heater (AC and seats) visualisation when my Bluetooth module was broke, but as soon as I replaced that they came back of their own accord.

I don't have a reversing camera so I can't help on that one, but something I did before the update was to use VCDS and go in and record all of my settings manually so that if needed I could re-enter them if needed. Do you have VCDS or access to one?

One key pointer that was not in any instructions but I found here on the forum was to get the MMI into update mode you have to hold down the "Setup" and "Return" buttons for about 5 seconds.

From what I recall the update re-booted the MMI when it needed to as part of the process. However, to manually re-boot the MMI all you have to do is press the "Setup" + "MMI Control Knob" + "Upper Right Selection Button" (all together). It will then re-start.

    Cheers,

    Hi AndyB

Unfortunately I don't have access to VCDS!

The instructions I received from Boston Audi do actually state how to start as you also pointed out so I feel a bit better. I'm just a bit concerned that I might fry the BT module!
They also say to switch on the ignition but do not start the engine and do not have any other electrical equipment running as the voltage drop can cause many problems!

The Audi dealer here in Helsingborg - Sweden is wanting 300 quid to do the update, which I am very very reluctant to pay!
I will buy a battery charger to maintain the battery at the weekend and try to do the updates.

    Thanks again AndyB

I don't think there is much chance of frying the bluetooth module.

As for not starting the car... you can start the car before you do the update and keep it running throughout, but you shouldn't start the car during the update as that will cut the power to the MMI while the engine starts.

So you can in fact do the update during a (long) drive...

In summary, relax, it is unlikely that anything will go wrong, and quite a simple update to do.

    Hi,
I ran the update cd's on my car with a reversing camera and didn't have any problem with it or anything else, only the battery meter went (don't really miss it). The update doesn't make any dramatic difference to the way anything in the car works, nice to have a 3D option for the sat-nav but that is all I noticed. The main reason to update I guess is for bluetooth updates to run newer phones. Gave me a cold sweat running the cd's, worrying about what problems I might be creating in my computer runs everything car. For me all went well and I think that is the case for most people but I have read a fair amount of horror story's too.
Get as much info as you can before you start (some times you need to run a cd twice to make it work). Follow the instructions (my instructions came from Boston Audi too). I left the car running. I'm sure you will be fine.

Thanks for the info and support.
I'm a bit "miffed" at my dealer here in Sweden wanting 3500SEK about 320 quid for doing the update. Trouble is, with other things they have been very helpful, especially since I previously had a BMW and the dealer was terrible (wash my mouth out)!
Anyway, less of that and more Audi.

    Thanks again guys

OK, so now I'm really confused!!!

Have just come back from booking my Allroad in at my local dealer for wheel alingment and thought I would just mention about the MMI update price he had given me of 320 quid. He said that it was because I had 2G High and the updates come on the latest navigation DVD.

Can anyone clear this up as I've just got the 3 cd set and am ready to go

    Pete,

The dealer is only partially right!

The SatNav disc will automatically update SOME components of the SatNav firmware ONLY. It does not give 3D maps etc nor does it update any of the other MMI components.

The 5570 firmware discs update all components of the MMI that it finds.

I know this because I updated my maps before I updated my firmware.

    Hope this hepls.
