    Hi all,

I just had the Clutch, Fly wheel, Master and Slave cylinders changed on my Golf but even though the clutch is very light it has a really low biting point.

Is this how it should be or has the mechanic done me over?

    Waiting in anticipation

    Hi
I also recently had my clutch assembly replaced. The peddle felt a lot lighter when operating it. The biting point is also quite low, I am led to believe that this is the way it should be, no one has told me otherwise.

I've had clutches replaced on different vehicles before but none had the biting point so low after changing.

How long ago did you have your clutch changed and is there any difference now?

If the garage has left any air in the system when fitting the new cylinders this would cause the biting point to drop. Not sure how noticeable it would be though. its worth bleeding the system again just to rule it out.

    Hi
My mechanic replaced my clutch assembly about 12,000 mls ago. I was suprised at how light the peddle was, though to be honest. I was unsure if the peddle should be biting as low as it was. Feels a bit spongy aswell. I am in the mindset that the clutch was replaced and no matter how low the biting point is, it is still a new clutch and I should easily get 60,000 to 80,000 out of it.
As said in the post, they may have left air in the system.
I think that the brake and clutch use the same resovoiur. Hence the name brake and clutch fluid
I am going to get my brake fluid changed, would this also firm up the clutch ?????
    Just a thought !

From what I can see under the bonnet, the brakes and the clutch share the same reservoir. That said, bleeding the brakes wont effect the clutch as they are completely different circuits. Unless of coarse you bleed the fluid out of the clutch circuit when you do the fluid change. Fresh fluid can make a noticeable improvement if bled properly.
I would expect the pedal to be lighter with a new clutch and presume this to be normal.
