what is the difference between these 2 engines and is there any difference in the set up/routing/readings of the various vacuum pipes, solenoids logs etc in relation to the various digrams and pictures on this site. I am trying to get a feel for what everything does, where it is and how it all holds together (thanks Martin as always for your excellent site). As my last Passat was petrol and this is my first ever diesel I am trying to understand what all of the logs mean, how everything works etc. My engineering background talking I guess!

I think the layout will likely be the same. The AVF gets mated to the 6 speed box which can take more torque, hence the AVF having an extra 20 or is it 25 Nm. possibly achieved by different ECU settings but I could be wrong..

AVF and AWX are the same engine with the same bits and pieces. Same power etc.
They generally share the same part numbers for the parts.
