My daughter has had this Seat Ibiza 1.4 (chill) for a few months now, and problems started when the epc light came on. This gave no symptoms of poor running until she broke down and couldn't restart the car. She called the AA and in the almost 3 hours it took them to respond, she managed to get it going again, albeit under reduced power.
I picked up the car from her and drove 70 miles to my home (only broke down twice, but managed to restart both times), and booked the car in for a look see.
Problem was identified as throttle body and Throttle pedal, but they said they weren't prepared to fit either due to costs (to me).
I took the car away, and reading through the limited info on this problem have fitted a brake light switch. This gave a brief remission, but epc light is still coming on, albeit car is only defaulting to reduced power (just now) rather than only giving tickover speed.
I've now booked it into an idependant VW specialist for diagnoses.
Car runs really well at times, but this problem needs sorting - any ideas?

    Pete

It needs a fault code read so when they do it, post the results.

    Now sorted.

Garage checked codes with reader, then reset things. I drove car for a couple of days with no problems, then took it back as requested. No codes had been registered, so he ran the car quite hard and it picked up the rpm sensor with a fault. Replaced this along with cleaning throttle body and now all seems fine.
Main fault I think was brake switch.

Fault is back again - daughter stranded. This is the most unreliable car I've owned in 40 years - where's the matches?

Well now it has died a fault code read will be very informative as it may show the reason and if no codes are stored even that helps as it can point you in certain directions.
