    Hi all

looking at buying a newish A4 avant (2010 model) and quite fancy an auto. However the box within budget is the multitronic as opposed to the S- tronic. I understand the old multitronic boxes gave slot of issues but have the new ones been improved?? Would love to hear of reviews and experiences either way.

    Thanks

I've had two multitronic A4s, a B6 and a B8, and can honestly say I've never had any gearbox issues.

Had mine (2.7 SE) for 11 months now. No problems at all. Have a drive in one - It's brilliant - ticks all the boxes for me.

I owned a B7 (2.0TDI) for just over 2 years and sold with 51K on the clock. No problems at all with the multitronic. Now got a B8 (2.7 V6 TDI) with the multi box again and so far (2weeks ) no probs.

Like said above it is a beautiful box. So smooth and can give a good punch when you want to get somewhere sharpish.

I've got a 58 plate with 47,000 miles on the clock and still really smooth and doing what it is supposed to.

Took mine for its first service today, went for a drive with a mechanic and he said the CVT box is now trouble free. I said can I expect to get 100,000 miles out of it and he said yes..... but dont miss any oil changes

Had one on my 58 plate. Had to be replaced under warranty at 18,000 miles. Was never quite right from day 1 so I guess my personal experience was the exception. That said, I agree with the other comments, it was quite excellent (when it worked).

Drive one and I am sure you will love it.

I do not think I would go back to a manual and the flappy paddles and 8 forward ratio's just makes you smile.

Given the speed and the number of gear shifts you always find it in the power (er hum, as much as you can expect from the devils fuel).
