Hi all, bare with me this is my first thread. Can anybody throw some light / help to the hazard warning lights on my 2002, A6 2.5 deisel quattro. The near side flashers do not work when the hazard lights are on. They don't flash when the car is locked with the remote. any help would be very useful. Thanks.

hi,recently done the same on my 1999 a4 1.8t.Is the hazard light (switch hazard relay)switch on your centre console. It's a common fault on every vagcar.So...what you do is pull the surrounding plastic bit and you should be able to see the switch itself.the switch has 2 clips on each side(lef and right).Someone advised to remove stereo to get to them, but I've done the easiest for me way which is get pliers and pull the damn thing!!!It came out like you open a vine bottle. When it's out you will see the plug at the back of it.Unplug it,plug the new one in and enjoy!!!

As escobar says, it's a common problem. So common that your dealer will have a spare in stock and happily take twenty-odd quid for it. It normally affects the flashers first, not the hazards so check that you even have normal use.

To confirm the problem, you can take the old one out, crack open the lid and clean up the relay contacts with a very fine abrasive. That will give you maybe another 6-12 months of fault free operation, but eventually you'll need a new 'un. When you take it out beware the the leads behind are just a little too short so be careful not to let them drop behind the dash or it will be a radio out job.
