    Hi guys
Ive had my golf for 6 months and just recently the driver side wiper is hitting off the metal part at the end of the windscreen (i think its called the a-pillar) I took the blade out and it seems fine, its not bent or anything. Im thinking there may be some adjustment screws in the base of the wiper stalk itself that need to be tweaked. Is this easy enough to fix myself or will i have to head on down to the dealer?

Sounds like the wiper itself may be loose and has moved slightly on it's mounting. If it's not physically bent I don't see any other way this could be happening.

    Welcome to the forum.

As Rob says it sounds like its come loose on the spindle. It depends on how handy you are with cars whether you want to attempt this job yourself or your go back to the dealer and get them to fix it.

Agree it's probably moved on the spindle. There is a plastic cap on top of the arm above the spindle . I think this is a simple matter of prising this off, slackening the nut underneath and re-positioning the wiper. But as the car is still under warranty why not get the dealer to do it ?

Interesting to see this post. I have just become the proud owner ... of a '59 plate 1.6tdi, se, 5 door hatch. This is a loan car which I will be driving for the next 6 months at least, while waiting delivery of my long term car, a Golf estate.

One of the first things I noticed about the loan car is that the driver's side wiper blade strikes the windscreen pillar, this is very annoying and not at all what I expected. Looking a the 'parked' positon of the blades this is not a matter of being "one spline out", and heavens above this shouldn't be an issue on a car of this age (15 months old- -27k miles on the clock), very disappointed!

I recently had my windscreen replaced ( delaminated) . When car was handed over by dealer I found that the passenger side wiper was quite a bit out - too high. I pointed this out to them and they re-positioned it in just a few minutes although its still a little higher than what it was before the screen was changed. I'm not sure if shaft is splined or not - could be just a taper friction drive.

That's a good point, maybe i'm showing my age but wiper arms always used to mount on splined shaft. Not withstanding that, the problem i see is that the position of the blade when parked appears correct,

My Polo's started doing this too- and again, it's after the screen was replaced. I'll have to get onto that to sort it, it's really annoying!

Undo the nut under the cap at the base of the wipe arm. Remove the wiper arm off the spine and refit 1 spine clockwise.

It's obviously the case that these windscreen fitters are removing the arms to fit the screen and are a bit slapdash when refitting them.
