Am I correct in thinking that the MMI control unit, amp etc cannot be simply replaced like-for-like, and that they need to be programmed to match the set-up and features of the car. I need a control box and BOSE amp, and was considering second-hand units due to the extortionate dealer costs new. If they need programming though what equipment and software is required - and would it be worth the hassle?
Thanks in advance.
My understanding is that to prevent theft AUDI have an additional level of coding on the devices that prevents you from just dropping replacement parts in, I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong somebody) that these parts are electronically enabled by Audi themselves when they are fitted.
This is above and beyond what you can do with VCDS (the Cable/software combo that allows you to program elements of the cars computer systems such as the MMI).
I'm sure the learned ones here will give you a lot more info than I can.
Hope that helps
