According to the VRM lookups and documentation that came with my car it has a semi-auto DSG gearbox.

What exactly is semi-auto about it? I've got a clutch and manual 6 speed box

I've googled it but it seems to be a lot of info on fully automatic DSG and nothing on semi automatic.

What's the difference between the gearbox in my car and a manual?

    Thanks.

Basically you can override the auto hence the word semi auto. Flick the lever over and you can control the gear change + and -. And If you have the paddles on the wheel its even more fun

As to what is a dsg box basically it has 2 clutches one works on 1 3 5 the other works on 2 4 6. Basically this gearbox preselects the next gear ready. This results in quicker gear changes than an auto and a manual.

Hi thanks for the reply, I don't have such an option that's why I'm slightly confused.

When I VRM the vehicle it comes back with the following info.

    Volkswagen Passat
    2.0 Estate 2007
    Diesel SEMI AUTO
    ALUMINIUM/SILVER

VRM:VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI SPORT DSG (B6)

    Engine: BMR060554 BMR 1968cc 16V 170 BHP

    That's why I'm confused :-)

The VRM information must be incorrect.

What does the log book say or if you do a search with the reg? If thats says auto something is not right and I would start to be getting a bit worried that you have purchased a cloned car

Hi, I think it's just the VRM info that's incorrect, it happens all the time (I work for a company who provides aftermarket software so I have access to a lot of data).

The log book/service book etc. all check out ok. It came from a leasing company with FVWSH etc. so it's all legit.

I used to own a Skoda 1.9 TDi auto, on all the docs other than the V5 it used to come through as a 1.8 T, never did get to the bottom of it, and all the incorrect info was on the VAG docs.
