Engine warning light has been on for three weeks now.

Read with VCDS that this is caused by the Fuel Temperature Sensor.

Could anyone shed any light as to where it is situated?

    Thanking you in advance.

Look in the pipes near the fuel filter. One of them should have a sensor held in by a metal clip. That's the temp sensor.
