    Heads up for everyone.
Have a look at the very bottom of your windowscreen and note if you have any milky marks as the laminate has absorbed moisture. We have had a very hard two or three weeks weatherwise, and if you have left your car outside, you may well find this problem. I have just taken mine in for a technical report to be sent to Volkswagen. When I took the car in, I took the opportunity to have a look around the forecourt of the garage, specifically Golfs with 09/10 registration, which had been left out during the bad weather. ALL were suffering from the same problem. This does not bode well.

Just had ours done under warranty.. Took a week to do!!!! Delivery issues with the weather and then when screen arrived it was damaged thus rejected by dealer so had to wait for another!!!

As usual found torx screw on carpet so have put it in glovebox till something falls off and then i will know where its from!!!!! Probably from where new headlight switch has been fitted but not risking damaging dash to find out!!!

Why did you bother? How bad was it? Did it only appear in sustained, damp and wet weather?
This problem first appeared on the MKV, to my knowledge and you have to ask why is it appearing on the MK6?
As I said earlier I left mine (on the MK5) and nothing worse transpired, as a result and no windscreen disturbance.

Mines in with the dealer at the moment to diagnose the battery light fault (stays on for 5 seconds after engine starts - been like that for 12 months, 20k miles and been looked at twice before) and replaced the passenger air vent due to rattling (replaced in July and been 10 times worse since). I'll be checking my screen when i collect the car tonight. I had to replace a screen in my Mk3 due to milkiness, but waited for a change in insurance company due to the high glass excess on the earlier policy.

If it's not right why wait and then possibly have to use your own insurance when VW should replace it under warranty as its defective.

I checked 2 mark 5s, and 6 used mark 6s on the forecourt at my local dealer last night and all were fine. The bottom edge of the screen is visible, unlike the Mk3 where it was partly under the plastic scuttle cover. I think all screens are liable to whitening, its just the Golf (and EOS, Passat and Polo have their edges exposed)

I seem to have the same issue, although as it's right down in the bottom of the screen, and compltely obscured from the inside of the car, it's certainly not obvious. I only noticed when I was washing it.

If it's only in damp weather and isn't going to get any worse, my inclination is to leave it rather than having the windscreen replaced which may then lead to other problems. But equally of course, I don't want it to start getting worse when it's out of warranty.

I shall have to keep a close eye on it. Have other forum members experienced it getting worse over time, or does it just appear but not spread?

On my MK5 it appeared quite quickly after buying it but it never got worse. Only more obviious in the damp cold winter months. Could not see it when weather got warmer.

    Evening Blackthorn.
Yes, I went to my dealer today to be informed that Volkswagen had ok'd mine to have the window screen changed. However, like you, I do not want to disturb things, and as the milky marks are right at the bottom of the screen I am going to leave the whole matter in abeyance for the moment. However, as it is down on my car history now, I have been told by my dealer to keep and eye on the present screen and if I wish I can still
have it changed at anytime I choose.
The bottom line is you risk disturbing things knowing full well the new one can go exactly the same. Who knows, when the hot weather is here the marks may recede more, or completely. If this is the case, I will squeeze some vaseline into the crack, this could keep the damp at bay in future, but not restrict the screen for expanding and contracting.

I also put a further complaint in about one of my front headlights that had a lot of condensation inside it. I was informed that Volkswagen was also aware of this, but as the light is virtually all glass and plastics it should not be a problem, also the lights being on all the time will probably vaporise what is inside. But, once again they stated that if it starts to deteriorate over time it will be replaced!
On a further note re the bottom of the screen, I have purchased a roll of one quarter of an inch black plastic car coachline tape to put along the bottom of the screen to hide the milky scars. Purchase it at a local car shop for £3.99. I used to use this stuff to have lines down the side of my car many years ago, and never had any trouble with it coming off, so I am assuming it will stay on the glass. The wipers don't come far enough down to dislodge the tape, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it makes a nice neat job. Just a suggestion if looking at it gets you annoyed on I assume a new car. It has happened to other people so you and I are not the select two!

All in all my dealer came up trumps and was very helpful, something that is lacking in a lot of places. Possibly because this is a family run business.

Hopefully this will change to this otherwise it is gloom and down for a

My MK6 Golf has the delamination milky appearance at the bottom of the windscreen . Will take in under warranty for replacement. If moisture gets in between the laminations and then it freezes it can only get worse.
I also have a dead spider inside the RHS headlamp "glass" . The point I'm trying to make is, how did it get in there ? . Must be a gap in the sealing somewhere . If a spider can get in, then moisture will easily get in causing condensation.
