The brake pad warning is designed on a circuit of a single wire from the dash, round each brake pad and back to the dash. If that wire is either broken (worn through/cut) or complete but shorted to earth (pad worn through and wire touches brake disc) the reference voltage will not arrive back at the dash and the warning lamp will come on.
Re-check there are no parts of the sensor cables are worn through where they could short out. Also check the plug couplers to the sensors; if there is a bit of dirt or corrosion in there it will also give a false indication - for the reasons I've mentioned above.
