hi i just bought a audi a4 avant on a 54 plate. the yellow brake warning light is on the dash and wont go off. i have checked the car on vag com and its clean. no faults come up

the car has just been fitted with new pads on the front by the previous owner.

i have checked the sensor wires they are all fine. and the brake fluid is good as well.

what can it be??? after looking at other threads on this forum i come accross one that said it can be low battery, but the fires up strtaight away, but the wipers are very slow moving when i put them on.

    can it be the battery??

    thanks

The yellow light is the pad warning. Double check the connectors and wires, pull the connectors appart and make sure none of the pins are bent. Are the pads genuine or aftermarket? It could be a faul in one of the pads.

If it was the battery you would normally get the red light and 3 beeps when starting the car, this would go out straight away. This happens because the ABS controller reads the voltage as being to low.

You could get the battery drop/load tested for piece of mind, most places wont charge for it (I gues since they hope they can sell you a new battery). Think ********* do it.

If your wipers are acting slow as well you could have an earthing problem.

The brake pad warning is designed on a circuit of a single wire from the dash, round each brake pad and back to the dash. If that wire is either broken (worn through/cut) or complete but shorted to earth (pad worn through and wire touches brake disc) the reference voltage will not arrive back at the dash and the warning lamp will come on.

Re-check there are no parts of the sensor cables are worn through where they could short out. Also check the plug couplers to the sensors; if there is a bit of dirt or corrosion in there it will also give a false indication - for the reasons I've mentioned above.

I'm pretty sure i've read that the wipers are known to seize up on A4's, so perhaps a removal and grease of moving parts etc before they seize completely and need new wiper motors?

    Just a thought.
