hi there guys, just a very quick question, ive currently got a passat b5.5 and was wondering if it was worth me buying the passat B6 or going for something else.

can you guys point out common faults, issues and niggles that are of the passat B6 140 tdi sport and roughly how much it costs to fix them.

im stuck between an audi and a passat so any info you guys can give would be awesome. ive been told by quite a few people not to buy it as they have quite a few issues. can any of you guys give me a heads up please.

    thankyou

ive had a look on the link the chap provided and honestly its either a bash between the passat 2.0tdi 140/170 sport or an a4/a6 2.0 tdi s line. nothing else.

just really stuck as ive had my passat 1.9 2002 tdi sport for a fair few years now and honestly speaking the car has taken some thrashing but has been serviced and maintained regularly too and still runs like a charm.

just wondering and hoping, as ive read the B6 has quite a few issues is if it is worth getting the B6 as opposed to the audi? what models/year/engine i should look out for? and what the common issues are too please with the passat tdi engines.

sorry if the main post was a bit confusing

    thankyou

I have had mine for nearly a year and its a B6 2.0 Tdi 140 sport with dsg. The VW and the Audi use the same engines. I think the only thing the vw has is the smart key"push start" apart from that I believe they are the same.

    Hth,

    Rappy.

I've had a Passat B6 140 TDI Sport (4Motion) Estate for about 3 weeks now.

Coming from a BMW (195bhp), I miss a lot of things, quality being one of them, but I am not kicking myself for that.

Prior to buying this current (Passat), I studied a lot of threads on a lot of forums in order to understand the pros and cons of this motor, especially the faults. It seems that the most likely culprits of various technical faults are the 'BKP' and the 'BLP' engine codes.
These engines have been reported to suffer from injector issues - costing a replacement price of £600 - £1100 for each, unless warranty is your saviour. Turbo-related issues are not uncommon either.
Then again, 'luck' has a lot to do with it, as 'most' relative drivers will be all praise for their motors.

I was also interested in an Audi - and I still am - but what you would get in a VW would be almost the same as, if not superior to, the Audi equivalent, only at a much affordable price. The Audi is, however, superior in quality.

It now depends on what technical, qualitative, performance and economical aspects appeal to you the more. Then keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

PS. This 4Motion has taken me this snowy, slippery season to places no car has taken me before.

I'm still pleased with mine. Had it about 6-7months now.

I'll be honest, reading a lot of the stuff on here dosnt half make my bumhole twitch, but as said, all new car's have inherent faults in them so just get what you like and hope its not a friday car.

The Audi will suffer the same faults as the Passat mate, just Audi kept the oil pump issue mega quiet, as long as you buy 07 onwards you should be ok with the Sat, I moan about what mine might cost me in the end, but it doesn't stop me lovin it, or enjoying the looks at the lights on a clean day with a mini detail making it shine, I think in the end out of the two, do you wanna be seen as a manager or an upstart, I prefer upstart image myself, manager gives off impressions of a side parting, glasses and a wilder under the nose imo.

I sometimes feel like a grandad in mine tbh, but I dont care mostly. Always been a big fan of Vdub's, but I dont think I'l be getting a "new"(ish) one again, I'll stick with the older ones

thankyou for the reply guys. ive had a look and was thinking of the sel passat 170. are their injector problems from these engines too? and the thing im after most is a car that will take me in comfort from A to B with some power if im after, and to take the family on visits on the weekend. the B5.5 has dont that with no issues for 3 and a half years now and i think im due a change.

the new job means lots more travelling so going for the sel will be a little more comfortable than the sport i think. any ideas and considerations? and known things to look out for in a sel 170 2006 ish passat. or would the 2007 onwards sel be a better bet?

sorry about the randomness of the post!
