    What to do ?

DPF warning light came on, so I followed the handbook instructions
and took the car on a long run, after circa 50 miles the engine
management system warning light also came on and the engine went in
to limp mode. Staggered home and booked car in to garage.
The garage were also unable to regenerate the DPF and say that it
needs replacing. They confirmed that the engine management warning
light is being triggered by the back pressure in the system
affecting the exhaust and turbo as a result of the blocked DPF.

I know replacement of the DPF is not cheap (waiting for a price),
however I have found a number of companies that offer to remove the
DPF and configure the ECU and tuning to work without it, i.e.

    1. ECU Programming to ensure the car will run correctly without the
    filter(no errors, no limp mode).

    2. Diesel Injection Tuning to ensure the vehicle will pass it's MOT
    test -

    3. Physical DPF removal labour..

Would appreciate any advice and guidance that helps my decision, replace or remove ?

    Car is out of warranty
    110,000 on the clock
Recently had engine rebuild after oil pump failure !
Love the car just want it to work reliably !!!

    Does the A4 2.0 TDI 140 have a DPF?

I was told it does not have one.... Do you mean the Catalytic converter?

Or have i got it all wrong. Intially i made enquiries as i had read removal of the DPF also helps performance, but when i enquired further about a replacement pipe i was told it was only the 170 model that had the DPF.

I would like to know more?

If its the Cat, these guys are local to you and they did fantastic service on new exhaust for mine at a fraction of dealer prices and i know the do custom cats aswell.

Not quite the answer your looking for but hope it helps

Not sure when they started fitting them but there is definitely a DPF on my A4 140.

The Diesel Particulate Filter is some sort of 'envrionmental' add on.

Will check out the link you supplied anyway, thanks.

The 170's have DPF's fitted from factory.

In the early days of the 140 bhp 2.0 TDI lumps, it was a optional extra (Free i may add irrc) to add a DPF to the engine and some weirdo's must have asked for it.

I'd say Remove the sucker and remap it. You'll LOVE the new power of the car.

You cant just remap it, you need to run dpf off program first as dpf is linked to nearly all ecu settings.Find a good remap company who understand this and offer a solution to remove the filter as well

Of course, i meant to say remove the DPF and all software in relation to the DPF and then remap it.

AMD and the likes can do it i think!

Okay time marches on, and after circa 6 weeks with a DPF/Turbo specialist the car has been returned to me, while away it has had -

DPF removed and engine remapped as required
    The turbocharger rebuilt
The intercooler removed cleaned and refitted
Change of Oil and Oil filter

The turbo still does not work !!!

I'm told that no error messages are appearing when on the electronics test rig and everything looks fine, the turbo runs fine on a test rig.

The car drives okay with no warning messages on the dash but is of course underpowered and sluggish as the turbo does not operate.

The specialist has run out of ideas and is recommending it goes to a Audi specialist for further investigation.

What I need is help !!!

Can anyone recommend a Audi specialist (West Midlands based and preferably not a dealer) who should be able to sort this out ?

Can anyone recommend anything that will bring this horror story to an end ?

    Hoorah, horror story over.

VWRescue in Wombourne/Wolverhampton finally resolved the issue.

Turbo now works fine, and an MOT aswell.
