I removed the bumper to fit 2 new headlight cluster units.
here is how.
1, remove the front grill it just unclips from above with a small flat head screw driver, 4 clips.
The bumper itsself has to be removed, there are 2 vent looking plastic covers where fog lights would go, these have one screw on the outer edge, remove.
2 now you will see 2 more srews that hold the bumper on, undo and remove.
3 There are 4 screws under each wheel arch, again, you might have to turn the wheel to get at these, and there is a screw also under the wheel arch holding the bumper to the body work above at the upper most part of the bumper in wheel arch.
4 There is a small nut holding the front of the bumper on, infront of the bonnet release catch, remove this
Now this part caught me out.
5 There are also 2 screws behind the front indicators, so the indicators have to be removed.
6 to do this you will see a small plastic funny looking thing that looks like a screw on the outer edge of the indicator. now turn these half a turn only, and lift the plastic screw thing, it will pull up, maybe a pair of flat nose pliars will do this, once it is up, the indicator will become loose and can be removed and left to hang outside the bodywork. this will show you the screw that has to be removed.
7 There are also 5 small plastic push fixings that are under the bumper on the bottom you will have to get under the bumper on the floor and look up to see these. These will break as they are plastic when you pull them out. I broke 4 out of 5 getting them out, but dont worry once the bumper is removed you can push the broken ones out , and get some new ones from VW , cost 10 pence each, and later when its all put back together just get under and push the new ones in. I cant see they do alot, but as I like things done well, I will put new ones back.
Just remove the small nuts holding the headlight Unit in and remove. Bingo. Job Done.
I would also recommend, lifting the front of the car on axel stands or wheel ramps, will make the job alot easier. And 2 people to hold each end of the bumper taking off and putting back.
