Hi all, been on this site a while but this is the first time ive been on the Skoda forum. I am looking to buy a new car in the next comming months but I HATE the new b6 Passat! I know that the passats, A4's and a Skoda are nearly identical cars, but which Skoda? (Octavia or Superb) I was told that the other has an even larger wheelbase than the Passat, does this mean that it shares its chassis with the Phaeton? Lastly, which is the better car (in your opinion) the Superb or the Octavia. (Diesel versions)
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris.

Superb vs Octy is a tough question, depends what size of car you need - The Superb is VERY big! They share (most)engines/gearboxes etc so are similar in that respect. Superb is bigger and more expensive. Drive them to see what you prefer.

Too big for me so I bought the Octy and love it, I'll never go back to Audi.

    Hi there.

To answer your question about size, the Octavia is based on the Golf, but uses a stretched platform, which allows for better legroom and more comfortable ride. The Superb is based on the Passat, so has even more room still.

The difference is though, the Octavia is a hatchback (or clamshell, strictly speaking) with folding rear seats, leaving a cavarnous boot (it's bloody big without folding the seats).

Either way, you wont regret your decision in buying a Skoda. They are fantastic. I still cannot believe the quality of it. Also, the Superb Estate was claimed by Fifth Gear as "the best estate car ever made."

Thanks both for your quick reply's. Yes, ive heard the quality on the newer Skoda's are good, just a re-badged A4/Passat. I didnt realise that the Octavia was a hatchback, I was looking at an Octavia Vrs tdi, do you know what engine is in it? Is it the 1.9, 2.0 commonrail or the 2.5 v6. Is there a Superb equivalent such as a sopt etc?

The Octavia vrS diesel would use the 2.0l 170 bhp common rail.

I think you can still have the Superb with the same engine.

I know it's not the TDI, but our vRS is absolutely fantastic. Lovely interior, firm, but not jiggly ride (even with 18" alloys) and stonking performance and lovely, sharp handling. And as mentioned earlier, built like a brick outhouse. Makes my mates Civic Type R feel like a Coke can.

Looking a new VRS? then that'll be the 2.0 CR, earlier cars used the PD engine but all new one's will be CR.

Indeed the Octy is a hatchback (as is the Superb with its 'twindoor'), very practical and you can get loads in when the seats are down!
