    Hi

I'm having some problems with my rear parking sensors.
Car bleeps when engaging revers and sometimes I get another long Error sound. Sometimes I don't.
I've cleaned the sensors and they seem to work intermittently....not picking me up near the rear of the car. When I'm reversing they're telling me I'm about to hit something...when nothing is there.

Is it possible to pop the sensors out of the bumper to check wiring?
Must the rear bumper come off?
    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Dave

    Thanks Bez

Job for the weekend but do the sensors pop out the way or do they retract in behind the bumper?

Didn't seem as bad this morning - still bleeping even though nothing is there - but I'm wondering if it's temperature related because it didn't feel as cold this morning.

    Hi

I know this is old post, but I managed to change one in themiddle and one in the side of the rear. Audi specialist in Surrey quoted me £80for a sensor and £100 Labour for this job, so I am glad I managed to do this onmy own
The sensors stopped working every now and then. I was alwayspuzzled as they often work absolutely fine. To find out which one is faulty, you just ignition on (not start engine), then put reverse gear. If you toucheach sensor with your finger, the working one gives you small ‘pulse’. You canfeel the difference if you try. I got a replacement from ebay around £20. Thepaint was 8 pounds from ebay as well.
I didn’t have to take the rear bumper off at all, but just neededto do the bottom bit of the bumper (my Audi A4 is S-Line). I just needed to undo4 screws (black star ones) starting from the right one to the one next to the exhaust. Then, this bottom bit is more flexible to put your hands through (I had many scarsaround my wrists now…)

Parking sensors are just sitting in the hole very tight. Noscrews etc. I had to push very hard from outside and pulled a bit from inside. Then, unlock the clip to take off the faulty sensor. I used small screw driver. Put anew one and push it back in!

I have an error on my leftmost sensor yet it pulses the same as the rest. I am wondering if it's a wiring problem. Looking at the Haynes manual, it is quite easy to get to the control box so I might try that...

I'm in the middle of replacing a sensor now. Sensor was £30.00 from ebay. The ticking/pulsing trick didn't work for me but vagcom did.
Removing the bumper is very simple and I can't see how it's worth struggling to do the job with doing so.

Let me know how you get on with the sensor. What error did VCDS give you before? And has the new sensor fixed the problem?

    vagcom looks like this:

Before I ordered another sensor I swapped them round to see if it was a poor connection - the same sensor showed a fault wherever it was. Ten days after having paid the sensor has not arrived and I'm getting twitchy.
Once it's here and fitted I'll update.

That's good to know that the sensor was still problematic when you moved it around as it sounds almost identical to my problem. The only difference on my VCDS readout is:
    Fault Status: 01100100

Do you know what the difference means? Hopefully your new sensor will arrive soon and will fix the problem :-) Interestingly mine was intermittent but close to 95% failure. In the past few days it has gone to about only 10% problematic. I wonder if the temperature has changed it somehow?
