    Hey all!
Just after some advice on a dvd recorder with a built in hard drive... I've had a samsung dvd recorder with a 250gb hard drive (SH855M) for just under 3 years, and it's broken already. I think the issue is software related. I've tried updating the firmware but hasn't really helped. If i leave it unplugged for a few hours and then plug back in it seems to work for a bit. It doesn't like the timer record function, just seems to lock up.
I'm now looking for a replacement unit. I'm not sure if I should go for another samsung or to try a different brand... Sony or Toshiba. Can anyone recommend a good dvd recorder, and also where to get one from? Need at least a 160gb hhd, although would prefer a 250gb to match what i've currently got. I know some come with 320gb now!
Has anyone else had problems with samsung recorders? I'm tempted to try the samsung SH893 or SH897... but not sure if I still have faith in their recorders.
    Many thanks in advance!

I had that samsung and sent it back within a week.

Absoloute crap. very slow on the software, took ages to respond to the remote requests.

I have a panasonic DMR EX768 it works great, but i hardly use it. we only ever use it to watch dvd's when i haven't ripped them in to my media player or its one i got off my mate

It will probably be superseeded by now.

    Its upscaling is fantastic.

Can't remember the model numbers, but I have a DVD recorder (no hard disk) from Toshiba ~ seems very good.
I had, at my wife's now, a Sony DVD/HDD recorder and that must be over 4 years old and still working great
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

Having just had the HDD fail in my sky+ box I'd say it's worth replacing the hard drive if you can. You may well find that the source of all problems is that.
