Had to have the front N/S bearing replaced in passat tdi, that is 3yr 4 mth old, and just under 36k on the clock.

Dealer says he tried to get some 'goodwill' payment towards cost as they had looked after it from new- but couldn't.

Trying to find out if this is a reasonable failure or are bearings supposed to last a lot longer.

    Thanks for any help.

    hi
had my front nearside front bearing done at 40k by my trusted indie vw specialist started as a slight drone , then unbearable dine and vibration in cabin . The problem is the bearing is a complete hub assembly and cost me £150 all in ( the hub kit is £95 ) quiet as **** now

thanks for the reply. don't feel so bad hearing that at least it has happened to someone else.

mine cost more like £200, but that was vw dealer prices. however they were quick about it- booked in for 8am for to diagnose it, then they had to get the part from 20 miles away, and i was driving away by 1045!

One of my fronts went at around 90,000 or so, but over the years I can't recall many posts on here about wheel bearings so I suspect it's not that a common fault, particularly at 40,000 miles or so.

Very much a case of are you a kerb killa tbh, these are a grey area, someone will get 300k (like me) others will shoot one in 20k, eberyone can drive, but not everyone is a driver.
