Hi all im new to the forum so be easy on me
    I have the 1Y diesel MK3 Golf
The car will only be a stop gap till i can afford something newer.
Are there any inexpensive ways of tuning it?
I had thought of taking the turbo off a 1.9TD but im not sure im up to the job of doing that myself.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

I am currently building my friends 3door mk3 golf 1.9diesel

He has bought a mk3 tdi intercooler, piping, turbo and manifold.
It's an expensive job in the long run. The tdi engines in the mk3 were only 10 bhp more than the 1.9d

Drive were different, but my mate is replacing the turbo with a slighly newer and bigger one and is putting a decompression plate/power gasket to compensate. Hes puttling in a hi flow exhaust and a remap that should see him in the 170bhp range.

Best thing with these strong engines is the bucket amounts of tourque

It is not a cheap mod.....but a lot of fun!

best way to get a 1y faster is to get it towed by something like an rs4. its not as simple as bolting a turbo on. how will the pump know to give it more fuel when it boosts ? , the pump has no boost control, so you need the pump as well. oil feed and drain for the turbo etc, not to mention the insurance implications. imho, leave it as vw intended, and buy something faster when you can afford it. oh, and you cant take a pump off a tdi and stick it on a di, as the injectors need different pressures and it just wont work and you cant swap injectors as ones di and the other tdi.

I have to agree with zollaf there. You will need a different fule pump and injectors would have to be a must in my friends case. My frien has taken the oil feed with the kit to the sump.

But again....EXPENSIVE. RS4 would be nice!

Seriously, sell the car and at least by a 90PS Golf 3 TDI or better still, a 130PS Golf 4 TDI and chip it, modding a 1Y is foolhardy.
