The hatchback car is a more versatile load carrier and will hold its value better than the Bora.

By the same token, pre-loved Boras should be cheaper than similar Golfs, so if you don't need the load space, go for it !
My only gripe is that they look like H***a C****s !
    Plenty of pics on Autotrader.

IMO the bora looks alot better than the golf. The lights on the front are more aggressive and less feminine looking that the golf. The sqaure rear on the mark 4 golf is very plain looking. Bora is more of a lads car and also is more of a drivers car with the greater weight on the rear.

Do you remember the '80s and who used to buy Golfs? Your choice.

I can pack a fair amount of crap into our Bora, especially if you fold the seats down.

No matter how hard you try, you won't see as many Boras on the roads - although I have to concede, this may not be a good thing.

I remember the '80s only too well, but not that any particular kind of folks bought Golfs. I had one myself in the late '80s, and IIRC they were regarded as being in good taste, as they still are IMHO. Are you perhaps confusing them with certain other hatchbacks of 'English' or French origin ?

That said, I want a Bora TDI 130 Sport automatic ! Despite my earlier posts I do agree with gbrad2x.

Have you thought about an Octavia? These can be picked up dirt cheap now, and if practicality is an issue with a Bora's saloon boot, but the popularity of the Golf puts you off, then an Octavia could suit you. It's the same size as a Bora but has a hatchback boot with folding seats etc.

The load area is nothing short of gigantic! You may even be able to pick up a mk2 Octavia (55 plate onwards) for the price of a Bora - which is based on the previous generation Golf chassis.
