    Re - Audi A3- 2001 - 1.8T

    Hi,

My passenger window in not working, it wont come down! (saying that it has come down twice in the past few months and managed to go back up) but bacically it no longer works.

I believe there is power going to the switch as I can here a clicking type of noise when I press it.

I have been advised that it could be the regulator? and is difficult to fix? I have also been advised this is hard to change and difficult to fit and it is easier to change the whole sub frame for which I’ve been quoted £80 + fitting - all included.

If I bought the part - the Regulator , it would cost me approx £70 from Euro car parts, then extra cost for fitting, I’ve been quoted £40-50 for fitting, Total £110-£120

A friend of mine had advised it could be a clamp in the door frame that is weak n snapped? Stronger 1's can be purchased on EBay for appox £10 - any idea how I would check this and fit?

Please advise how I can check what the problem is or what it could be so I can eliminate possibilities and hopefully save some money.

Any input would help and be appreciated

    Thanks

It could be the regulator, or it could be that one of the wires has broken in the hinge of the door (as has happenned with one of my rear doors). If you open the door, there's a rubber tube which carries all the cables for the window, lights, mirror and locks. If you peel that back, and examine the wires, you might find one that's broken.

That's what I found, I just need to get around to soldering and sealing it back together.

Fixing a broken wire is cheaper than a new window regulator.

There are clips in the window mechanism which snap, but they usually let the window wind down, but then stick on the way back up (my passenger window does that).

The clips might be £10 on ebay, but I think they're only £4 from an Audi dealer.

I had the same problem. I took the door panel off and could hear the motor/relay? clicking.
Basically, I pushed/pulled and generally slapped the mechanism until it worked.

Saved a fortune and it is still working.
