  1. Supraguard, Is it worth it???

Possibility of a new car coming up and have been offered Supaguard treatment for £365. Claims to give a permanent shine to and protection of the paintwork. Has anyone experienced this treatment or an equivalent if so how did you find it. Is it worth such a pocket full???

    Don't be a mug.

    Waste of money.

No chance i would spend that on a 'super high tech' or 'special formulation' ......... blah blah blah........

    Only my opinion.

In one word- NO get a proper car detailer on it or do it yourself, have a read through the car cleaning pages on here and have a look at some of elitedetailers work, it is not hard to do, start with a clay bar kit about £20, some good polish £15 and a good wax start at about £15 for a good one, keep the wax topped up about every 5 months, its easyer, better and gives much better results than the rubbish Superguard that is thrown on your car in about 45mins

I agreee with winnie. I have an 2006 model and I've recently used a clay bar and finished off with polish. The car looks like new and the paintwork is ultra smooth after using the clay bar. If these add-on products are THAT good then surely Audi and other manufacturers would use them.

Rusher, you are not thick at all just because you haven't heard of clay bars. I only heard about this process last year when somebody asked a question about how professional valeting services achieve the high glossy showroom look. The 'clay' is like a putty type of substance which coupled with a cleaner is rubbed over the surface of the (clean) paintwork. It reduces all the tiny pitting and roughness and really does produce an exceptionally smooth surface.

The best way is to buy a dedicated kit which will come with the cleaner and the clays. As a test, before you carry out the process gently rub your hand over the paintwork and you will feel it might be just a bit rough (obviously not if it's a brand new car!). Then carry out the clay bar process and feel the difference afterwards, it really is quite surprising.

Agree with the others... Supagard is just treatments that can be bought off Ebay for not much more than normal polish, and is very high margin for the dealer as a result - which is why they push it.

Since I found out about clay bars a few years back I have always clay barred then waxed then gloss coated my cars twice a year - spring and autumn. The paintwork looks great and feels as smooth as glass. Even the cheapest wax, following preparation of the car with a claybar, will give great results, especially if a microfibre is used to remove it. It doesn't even take longer as when you have clayed the car, the wax goes on and comes off so easily - no elbow grease required as when trying to polish off tar spots, insects, and the like...

    hi Rushers,
I also have supaguard and its really good, it does what I expected, good wash off and quick wipe over and it's back to that deep showroom shine.

Clay bars are ok but just ask how much work goes into the process?
To be honest I have used them and followed with the Megs polisher process etc and not sure that the result is that much better after a good two days work.
My supaguard was about the price you have been offered and also included the upholstery inside the car being treated.
Overall, the car seems easier to keep clean but its all down to how much time you want to put into polishing the car.
    Hope this helps.

If you really want it, buy it off ebay for £30. You're a mug if you pay a dealer hundreds of pounds for it.
