Sorry, another quick query. I have booked my A4 in at my local Audi main dealer for the oil service at c9K miles and have also paid another £24.99 for an engine flush and a fuel additive to remove carbon deposits which they recommended. Does anyone know what this VW sanctioned additive would be? I always thought these sought of things were 'snake oil'ish but this must be good to be part of a VAG official service pack!?

Thats cheeky, as it states in your handbook not to add Fuel Additives ! At 9K, engine will be clean as a whistle. The engine oil used in diesels has detergents in for this purpose.

Thanks Alan - yes i was a bit bemused by Audi using this. I would like to know exactly why this above all others has got the VAG seal of approval??!

More like the Service Managers seal of approval ! Would love to hear of a warranty claim outcome where the owner told the dealer they use fuel additives !

When my wife booked in her Ford Focus for a service recently, a similar thing was offered by the main Ford dealer. It was described as an engine flush to rid the engine of deposits that will have built up over the year. We didn't have it done, taking the view that as long as we continued to use quality fuels and oils that there was no need to do this.

Sounds to me like they're just trying to squeeze an extra few bucks out of you. there is definitely no sanctioned additives.

I'd be cancelling the engine flush, and investing in some magic beans. You will get greater benefit from them. It will do bugger all except make your wallet that little bit lighter

Do you think Audi themselves are aware of such sharp practices?

It might be worth sending a mail to Audi asking them if they approve of the practice, particularly since the manual specifically states that it should not be done.
