I need to replace the fuel lines on my 1.9TDI saloon in their entirity due to excessive corrosion (had to bypass the worst cracked parts with some hose yesterday just so I could get to work today)

I would propose to replace the entire length of the fuel lines with braided fuel hoses, instead of the under-car section being metal pipes.

The temporary bypass hoses seem to be doing the job fine for now, but is there any reason why I shouldn't use hose for the entire length and should stick to metal pipes?

there is no in tank pump, so the only fuel pump is the distributor pump, so the fuel lines only ever get suction and no pressure. for that reason, i would suggest using solid plastic pipe instead. braided fuel hose is expensive, and may collapse under vacuum. not saying it will, but it is more designed for high pressure petrol fuel injection pumps. normal rubber fuel hose may be ok, but the solid plastic definately wont collapse. the plastic pipe can then be joined to the tank and fuel pump with short sections of rubber hose, with a ferrule inserted into the plastic pipe.

    Still on the temporary bypasses!

Need to order something in time for MOT but aren't sure of the best supplier or part description for just generic solid plastic fuel hose. Can you advise/recommend a supplier?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6mm-1-4-PVC-PL...#ht_1048wt_754 this would do, and is quite flexible. i was thinking more of the hard plastic stuff, but it does seem hard to track down any.

Last year the fuel lines on my 1.9TDI gave up.

I measured the OD (outside diameter) (if I remember correctly one is 8mm the other10mm) and went to my local motor factor and purchased some copper piping.

Car up on the ramps. The rear of both pipe go in to short rubber sections just before the tank. At the front end the pipes go up the bulk head and the original pipes at this point were soild. So I got some rubber fuel pipe and jubilee clips and cut the original pipes at the bottom of the bulk head.

Both pipes fitted back in original rubber cushions and all brackets.

Complete job over in about 1hour.

Car went for MOT and the guy at the garage comented on a neat tidy job.
