Now that the towbar company have confirmed that the towbar electrics are okay...
Another test would be to understand what happens when you connect your trailer, do these RH brake lights stay on constantly too ? (having first confirmed the trailer electrics work properly on another vehicle).

OK..keep in mind that I have has the tow bar and electrics on for two years now with no bother..just my first line of thought was to eliminate it from the problem. They where actually very good took the whole electric kit off and it was still the same, they then wired it up to the left side of the car which is working fine. (all FOC)
When the tow bar was connected to the right the brake lights on the tow bar electrics stayed on permanently mimicking the car , when , now connected to the left they work fine.

Plugged into another car the trailer electrics work ok.

    Its...doing my head in

Sorted...Onboard power supply control unit...replaced and Diagnosed by Abbey Auto Electrics Co Durham, for the complete cost of £280. All is ok, Dont know if this is a good price but if anyone out there has had one replaced let me know.

Can recommend Abbey Auto Electrics..no fuss, plus tested the new one before fitting.

Also can the Onboard power supply control unit be fixed, if so , who by.

    Hi,

i have read your post regarding the fault you had on your brake lights some months after you got a toe bar fitted.
I have a similar fault only it is the middle light cluster that always stays on( ones on the boot) only one bulb is at fault.
i was thinking it might be the control unit as well.
I was wanting to check the wiring and was hoping you could email me some pictures of the control unit wiring or written pin out.
i realise this is some work but would really appreciate the help but understand if you don't have the time.
    my email address is POLNEESON@hotmail.com

i could return the favour if one was ever needed.

i have an mot due at the end of the month and worrying about a big bill for wiring fault fix.

    thanks for any reply

    Paul,
All i can tell you about how i fixed mine, i replaced the same as the unit stated above (Onboard power supply control unit) what was really important as i found out !!!!! was to insure you replace like for like.
I sourced a new unit from another Audi Forum member but is was a slightly different code mine was as in picture shown model - 8E0 907 279 F but i tried fitting 8E0 907 279 E (i think is was ending E) any way i fitted the slightly different model and all hell broke loose lights flashing alarm going off wipers going.
I quickly disconnected the replacement and refitted my unit and the car wouldn't run properly.
Any ways long story short i purchased a new unit direct from Audi at a cost of £280 and then had to get it programmed the same as the original one fitted and also had to get my car diagnosed for the fault that the second hand unit caused which was a main fuse under the bonnet. TOTAL COST £380 and a lot of time should have just replaced with audi part from the onset any way you live and learn,

    Hope this Helps.
