Can anyone give me ideas on what fuel consumption they are getting out of their mk5 2.0 tdi. I regularily get about 37mpg around town and 44ish mpg on a run.

Compared to the published figures this is some way off. Beginning to think there is something wrong with the car.

Have you also noticed that the computer in the dash when put to range(miles to empty) is a little optimistic! The range will drop quicker than the distance travelled.

My local mpg matches yours but on a run of, say 200 miles, mostly motorway at 75 to 80 I get 49/50 mpg on the computer. (Air con on.)

I did keep a record of diesel consumption for the first 15000 miles covered and this worked out at 42mpg, which seemed OK to me.

It's a little optimistic, agreed. I usually get 6.5-7L/100km in the city and down to 5L/100km on freeway, now try to convert these into imperial system

I average about 48 mpg, mixed driving style, mainly back B roads, a few A roads and I rarely go near a M/Way. I did manage to get it down to 38mpg while sending it on for a few days.

Since getting car in February at 48,000 miles it's averaged 46 mpg in the last 4000 miles according to the computer. Wife uses it to commute Monday to Friday and we generally do longer runs most weekends. I didn't reckon that was bad?

It took a bit of a hammering yesterday though, drove 120 miles from Aberdeen to Edinburgh pretty much head on into a gale and it only said 42 mpg for that journey.

Av on trip 2 is just over 50mpg. I do mostly motorway miles and am being a tightarrse at the moment, sometimes I can get 60mpg but then on the return journey get 55mpg. This is traveling at 70mph but getting to that speed asap.

If I have some fun then it drops but only to around 50mpg, 45 if I'm being on a nice road overtaking!

mines only a 105bhp 1.9 but i get 44ish on a run doing about 85mph and about 40 running to work and back, i think the 140bhp is better on fuel cos of the extra power you dont use the throttle as much, maybe wrong tho
