    I have a 2005 Passat Sport with Bi-Xenon leadlights.
I've started to get an error msg on my display "AFS inoperative see owners manual" and when driving the range of the lights is very poor, maybe 15M max.
I've seen a couple of posts regarding this but no real answers as to what it could be.

    Any Help Please..

    Bulbs dying.

Do they flicker after the initial fire up?

You need a code read as the lights have their own controllers. That should suggest what has caused this. The range motors (V48 & V49, left & right) can fail or the range controller (J745) can fail. It might be worth disconnecting the battery earth lead for 5 minutes to see if the system resets. I doubt it will but it's worth a try.

Does the range motor have anything to do with full/dipped shutter function - one of mine has failed and given I don't drive much these days I've left it for a while. Needs sorting, but tbh the car's falling apart, < 40k & 5 years old and stuff just isn't lasting. Nice to drive, but driving isn't fun anymore - it's pretty much worth nowt, but seems dumb to get rid.

The full/dip motor is yet another motor. This one built into the light to allow the dip beam pattern to be uncovered so it becomes main beam. These lights don't have a main beam bulb in the normal sense. I don't think they can be repaired but someone may know different.

Cheers for the reply, I've searched but not much info on these. AC with a mind of its own, front bushes going, door cable fallen off (again) now this - looks like Christmas is coming early for the dealer.

I've just removed the front passanger side road wheel and found that the "Front Left Vehicle Level Sender" which should be attached to the suspension was not even attached.

I have not connected yet as I wanted to check Elsa workshop software to find what it connects to, will attach tomorrow.

    Could this be the problem?

If it is meant to be connected to something then it could very well be faulty.
Id get it plugged into a VAG approved diagnostics computer and see if it throws a code, which if if its electrical fault it will do.
