I know it's not directly comparable but I had one Seat dealer fitted on my Alhambra's driver's door and it was £140 fitted incl vat (the actual regulator was £48 of that so if you fitted it yourself assuming the Touran parts cost is similar you'd save 85 quid or so)

    Hi Mattew,

Thanks for your reply, I had it fixed for £180.

The part (vw window regulator) was £110, and after some in depth reseach "google" I decided to much for my limited skills. You have to change the whole part even thou it was only the wire freyed and came off the runner. I look ebay and they do a repair kit for £25 but not sure if it would work on my car.

    Anyway thanks

You have been misinformed, the repair kit is also available from a VW dealer for less than £20, part number 1T0 898 099 left front and 1T0 898 100 right front.

    Hi Crasher,

The window dropped into the door, I rang my local Vw dealer and told him he said they only sell whole regulator not repair parts, I then asked for price for the part and it was £110 or £120.

I brought the car to my local indepentent garage to take a look and 2hrs later he phones me and says it has to be a Vw regulator at above price plus fitting. The lads at the garage who i have used for the last 6 years said it was a pig of a job.

The manager showed me the faulty regulator and it is basicaly a metal plate the size of the door with all the bits on.

Either that or he was showing me a part from another car.

    Anyway thanks again

Yes, that is the complete regulator without motor, 1T2 837 461 B left and 1T2 837 462 A right, for right hand drive. The VW parts system ETKA clearly lists “repair set for window regulator” under the part numbers I quoted earler and the kit list is

    Bowden cable upper x 1
    Bowden cable lower x 1
    Bearing cover x 1
    Tensioning roller x 1
    Follower x 2

Maybe there was some reason they could not use the repair set but one is certainly listed for the Touran 2003 to 2010.

This is a slightly overpriced example as they are less than this from any VW dealer

Crasher, how long would it take to replace the regulator, I got instructions from the net to take door off and it looked to long winded for me, plus not mechanical minded.

But I searched in case it was an easy fix.... When I phoned VW they never mentioned the possibility of a repair kit.

And to be honest I also have another Touran auto, which had recently been in for the MOT, and they failed it on drive shaft rubber and quoted £232…. I took it to local garage and they did it for £90.Hence why I never went near VW garage

Regards and thanks for you reply

I had the rear door regulator panel of a Touran yesterday to do a new lock and it took me an hour and a half which is what a regulator kit should take to do. The repair kit is extremely clearly shown on the parts page, the retail price is £18.66 including VAT and VAG UK have nine in stock of the right hand side. The diagram (which I should not be posting) is for a 2006 model but the kit is the same 2003 to 2010. There are some good reasons for the differences between VW dealer prices and those of independents but the price quoted to you by VW for the CV joint boot was very high, the indi will have fitted a pattern boot and I would have gone in the middle and fitted a genuine boot kit, which is about £20 so with an hour to maybee an hour and a half’s labour plus some bolts that have to be replaced, £80-£100.
