The light is controlled through the onboard supply control unit,so the first thing you need to check is if the light has power, remove the lamp and check if you have power on the red on black wire

Mark,
did you ever find the cause of this fault? My 2007 T5 has the same problem.
I have seen a report on another van of a poor earth under the floor mat, but haven't looked there yet

hi yes found the problem your correct in the earth cable under floor mat that isnt the prob as that only earths the heater, there is a power control unit above the throttle approx 6inchesx 6 inches. thats the prob i replaced mine and it was sorted. cost a bit though....i thought i would be clever and buy a new one and stick it in my self i had done that and it was fine threw the old one away until my fuel was s--t i then found out i needed it coded .pity i didnt keep the old one cos they needed the info off it another 50 quid. :( so the thing is fine now getting 30mpg around town and the light all work.... hope this helps...:approve:

Thanks Mark,
how much did it cost for a new control module?
Just thinking whether to bypass that module and wire the lights to a timer relay instead....

Steve, the mod dont just control the lights its a pain it took me ages to find the problem. the ecu cost approx 350 i think thats with someone i knew who worked at vw. plus the coding. so say 400-450 or live with the prob which i could not... :zx11: hope that helped.. regards mark
