i have no idea but im guessing that the air flow flap is probably stuck open as it is a intermittent mechanical failure and maybe thats why it wont fire up??
i dont know whats exactly what but if its the throttle body flap you could try giving it a clean see if you can get it started or see if its stuck open

well i have no idea what your talking about, well the way you describe it you pretty much dont seem to know, i mean as i said i aint a mechanic, apart from imagining that part must be in the engine mount somewhere an idea would be helpful for location. yep will check it see what i can find.

cheers

As the air flow flap fault is on the aircon, I doubt this will stop the car starting !!!!

how about the throttle valve thing.. ive just been looking and i think i may have found the prob based on the response..

if the flap is in the wrong position, then that..well stuck or something, then it wouldmake sence it not starting... looks quite an easy process to check and clean so will try that in morning

Referring to us mechanics as “cowboys” does raise the hairs on ones neck, I would like to see you do this **** job to earn a living! You depend on people like me to keep you moving and alive!

That fault code read is about as much use as one for the radio! That air flow flap code is nothing to do with the inlet manifold flap, the flap in the code controls the temperature of the air in the car and is under the dash, nowhere near the engine. To help us you need to do a Controller 01 engine ECU code read.

Crasher: It seems i have offended you, not my intention, but at the same time i very much doubt i rely on people like you"as you put it" to keep moving and alive... i did read that correct right.. alive... bit confused at that one matey, but you obviously understand what i mean though, the last thing i want to do is take it to a garage where i am going to be skinned for work and parts that i do not need... however if i have offended you apologies

It looks like the problem has nothing to do with either of those things..

The problem, as i called green flag out this morning to take a look is a ceased gear box, aparantly and yep he did show me, aparantly it looks like something has broken off inside the gear box and caused a hole in the front, nup no idea, parked it last sunday without a drama n first i knew was when i tried to start it.

although a few months ago it did havre a bit of a turn whilst on motorway, bit of black smoke, drove like a dog for a mile or two just thought carbon may have gone through the engine etc etc.. as after it it was fine, and it passed MOT last month without any probs whatsoever so didnt even think about it.

So yeah now it looks like i genuinely require your proffesional advice, that is if your not too smug to blow me off lol

the hole is as you look down the engine mount front, about the size of a 50 pence piece, now the bloke said if im lucky and theres no damage to in gear box a plate can be welded or something, but ifnot new gear box.

now i aint looked into this anyomore yet as its the weekend and obviously nothing is open garage wise in my area until the working week.

So yeah what would you suggest, obviously it needs fixing, but what i iant planning on doing is taking it to Audi garage as costs is very pleasing to my bank balance, completely understand its going to cost me quite abit,. but wonder about reconditioned parts to keep costs down ie gearbox if thats what is needed, and if what caused the problem, at least what i think has caused it ie something breaking off and ceasing it, what in your experience usually would be the reason, and more importantly what is the usual cost for repair

as to be perfectly honest, i donthave a clue how much this would cost me?

any and all replies on this issue is greatly appreciated.

I like to think that when Kite and Crasher take the time to reply to my posts, free of charge, they are prepared to help me whatever the issue may be.
Both these fellows are very knowledgable on all matters VW/Audi, so causing offence, however unintentionally, would not be prudent.
My suggestion would be to re-read codes, post them up and listen to the boys....FREE OF CHARGE, in the hope of a positive result.
Why would a "broken" gearbox not allow the engine to turn over ,unless you have the car in gear?
Good luck

Agreed, I must admit,

Im not always very good at explaining myself correctly, and yeah most likely come across quite arrogant and unappreciative of any comments from anyone one here.

I do appreciate every single comment, from everyone. I just get very frustrated that.. well the bottom line is I do not have a clue when it comes to cars, I am completely out of my comfort zone, and although this is no excuse I most likely react when a perfectly good responce gets posted in a way which comes across badly. Im generally good natured just feels like some folk take the mic at times.

So again, genuinly apreciate any comments from any member on here.
no offence meant from past posts.

Understood, if you know very little about cars then chat to the people you know and trust, then get their advice on which local garage you might trust with checking your car over.
Even if you only get some information about the car, you can still post on here for us all to offer help, based on what you learn.
There are many experts on the forum, whom you can trust
