View Full Version : What colour brake calipers?

Was talking with a mate over the weekend as to which colour combinations suit for brake calipers. The one colour we couldn't agree on was red as I've painted mine red to match the paintwork but was wondering what other combinations might work.

Not really many colours to choose from, blue only works with blue and thats if it's an S4 whilst yellow brakes look great on black, silver or blue paintwork. I've seen black Brembo calipers as well on a black car which didn't really look all that but red is a tricky one.

Don't think blue brakes really works with red paintwork, unsure about yellow (my mate thinks it would), any other ideas? Or best to just leave them unpainted grey?

Plenty of red Alfa's have red brakes so it can't be all that bad!

How about silver like the Brembo's on Fiat Coupe's

If you can mate.. give us some inspiration by posting a photo of your car sporting the painted calipers..

Have you thought of stripping the calipers back to base metal then getting some high-temparature laquer (if it exists) to prevent them oxidising?

I'm personally a fan of black, neat but descreat calipers. I got a great deal on some red Brembo calipers for my Mk4 Golf, but I wish the blacks had been available.

Did mine red, look nice set behind the silver wheel, not too chuffed about the damage to the rim this was done when the fitter dropped it having just fitted a new tyre, not all bad though they did give me the cash for the wheel to be repaired just need to get to portsmouth to get it done.

I finished mine with silver "hammerite" and no noticed ....typical, but the car is a dark silver so it does match.

Thanks for all the replies, the shortlist is Red, Black or Silver. Will try and take some pics of my painted calipers but usually too dark by the time I get home so might have to wait until the weekend.

Toff, those red Brembo calipers look ace, what was the damage on getting a set of 4 for your Golf and what size rims were they? (mine are 18")

Mattyboy C, I have the same alloys and my brakes look pretty much like yours but without the Audi rings :biggthump

I agree with that, there is something about the classy Brembo logo that excuses the lairy red colour :)

I personally would loose the Audi logo.. it doesn't look right perched on the edge of the caliper and as there is nowhere else for it to go, I'd get rid of it all together.

On the B7 S4 (I think) a little metal bracket is used to straddle the caliper to display the S4 logo. If that fits, the Audi logo would look good on that. I will try to find a photo to post later.

In the mean time, I've knocked up some mock-ups for ya:

:D LOL your bird may like the last one!

I quite like grey as opposed to silver!

The Brembos set me back £600 (grooved discs, calipers + pads). They were on a seriously special, cash-only offer at Red Dot in London. The Santa Monica wheels I had were 17" and there was plenty of clearance.

Cheers for the nifty work on Photoshop mate :D

Will take take a pic of mine at the weekend although you've got me thinking now that perhaps red does look a bit lairy if it's not Brembo, even more so if it's on a red car :(

Great deal you got on those Brembo's though, I've not seen them cheaper than £800 :crying:

Do you remember the VW Polo/Golf Harlequin special edition models? You could try the same approach with your calipers - a different colour for each wheel? :)

Just a thought...

I painted mine Gold with Smoothrite on a previous car I owned (Dark Blue) - I thought it looked great - intended to do the same with the current one, but just haven't had the time/inclination!

If you ask me, which you won't, they all look crap, except for toff's
suggestion.

I'd like to put some proper Brembo calipers and discs on but they cost too much :(

At just under 2 grand brand new, that's a hefty amount of wedge when they can be painted for 20 quid.
