In obtaining a quote for Car Insurance recently, I've been asked by M&S brokers to supply a copy of (Audi's) ie. 'manufacturer's Certificate of installation' showing that the alarm system fitted to my April 08 A4 Avant meets Thatcham approved standard, in order to qualify for their security discount. I've found nothing in the Owner's Handbook on this matter, except simple operating instructions.

Apart from photo-copying a page from current Audi Car brochure - (I don't have last year's A4 brochure, featuring my car) I am wondering if anyone else has been asked to supply similar document, and if so - what and where was it obtained from?

My next step will be the Audi franchise, perhaps they can help with Audi Alarm/Immobiser specs? Suggestions/advice welcome and thanks in advance.

what a load of crap- they should know if the car comes with Thatcham approved alarm as this will be on Thatchams database when the A4 model had it's security test carried out.

They need only go to this link

http://www.thatcham.org/myvehicle/

and see that the A4 has very good security and meets current Thatcham standards

Never ever been asked for any cert on an OEM fitted alarm when getting insurance

If you applied online, did you tick 'Thatcham CAT1' instead of 'Factory Fitted Alarm & immobiliser', as they normally only require a certificate on aftermarket alarm/immob install's.

Thanks - Kodkod, ini and windyj
I applied online and indeed may have ticked Thatcham CAT1, as I beleived it to meet Thatcham Standard - hence the request. I'll ring M&S Customer services to clarify.

For the record, M&S Car Insurance have (surprise, surprise) now accepted without further query that the factory fitted immobiliser/Alarm system on my A4 does indeed fully meet Cat 1 Thatcham Standard, but only after I forwarded the following reply received from Thatcham.org on the matter -

"This vehicle is fitted with a CAT 1 Alarm/ Immobiliser as standard, system name: Security System VI AU-FI, the Thatcham evaluation number is TC3 – 1436/0108"
